Daniel S. Schechter, 86, survived by his wife, Sally Joan; his children, David M. (Audrey Galex), John S. (Riki Lippitz), Nancy A. (Leonard) Schmelkin, Jane E. and James A. (Susan Kelley); his grandchildren, Maayan, Eyal, Ronen, Gabriel, Eliana, Lev, Geoffrey, Leah, Alane, Elijah and Leo. Editor and Publisher of the American Hospital Association; President of American Hospital Publishing, Inc.; board member of the American Dental Association Publishing Company. A member of North Suburban Synagogue Beth El, past president of North Shore Congregation Israel and former member of Beth Emet The Free Synagogue. He previously served as Vice Chair of the Board of the Union of Reform Judaism, as well as a member of the editorial board of the URJ Press and the Joint Commission on Worship, Music and Religious Living and chairperson of The Park Ridge Center for the Study of Health, Faith and Ethics. Served in U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, 12 p.m. at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El, 1175 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, IL. Interment on Monday, Oct. 29, 1 p.m. at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Flushing, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to charity of your choice .
