In memory of
Laura Danna-Munisteri
September 30, 2017
Much like myself, Danny was a nature and animal lover. I met Danny through my beautiful sister Susan who became friends with him while attending Utica College and has also left us too soon. I'd like to think the two of them, (along with their good friend Bob), are enjoying each other's company once again. Condolences to his family, he will be missed.

Dan Shure was an awesome person. I was introduced to his amazing personality through my wife Laura, who worked with Dan in her tenure with CUNY. Witty and smart, I always enjoyed being in his company. Dan also provided career advice that I take to heart to this very day. I am truly saddened by this loss, but feel blessed to have met a beautiful soul. RIP Dan. Well catch up again soon.

I knew Dan through his dog, RJ. I was his groomer and fortunately still get to see RJ when brought in by his new family. Dan was always very sweet and down to earth and although I didn't know him outside of a professional capacity, reading all the wonderful words by his friends and colleagues, as well as his loca contributions makes me wish that I had. Thinking of all of his loved ones right now.

Dear Dan,
You will be missed dearly by many in the CUNY community. I didn't have a chance to work with you beyond the social media roundtables, but I wish I did--your off-the-cuff humor always kept the roundtable meetings exciting and certainly, your brilliant discussions, along with the presentations you helped organize, is what attracted so many of us to come back and learn not just from you and your wonderful team, but from others throughout CUNY as well. You and your team did that. I'm so sad that you won't be at the table anymore, but know that you brought many creative CUNY colleagues together. My sincere condolences to your family.

I too worked with Dan at Lehman and then would run into him at CUNY from time to time. Friendly, smart, with a twinkle in those all-seeing blue eyes - and a delightful sense of humor. A loss too early...sad.

I knew Danny from Jefferson school in Maplewood and went all through our formative years together. What a good guy and a good soul. Marched to his own beat, very sad. Was not in touch much, but always thought our paths would cross again. RIP buddy

Working at Lehman and knowing Danuel, I learned that he was a person to appreciate for his many positive attributes. He understood the value of outdoor environments. A sad feeling with his leaving us.

Dan was at once a people person who stayed in touch with relatives, friends and colleagues old and new while at the same time enjoyed his time alone. His humor, wit and hospitality made him a pleasure to be around. He was, as he liked to say a good egg, in fact one of the best. Although brief, I am so glad that we met, knew each other and lived together for the time that we did.

Dan was a genuinely decent and authentic person. He cared about and helped others. He shared knowledge and made things better. He had a great sense of humor.
Dan was one of the good guys. We need more like him.

Dan always said he learned so much from you. In particular, he remembered you commenting, "The chickens come home to roost."

I met Dan when he responded to an ad for free furniture. Dan always had a cherry hello when I saw him at the Black Cow. I will miss him, and I'm truly sorry for your loss

Daniel and I traveled to Vietnam together (with a group of Lehman students) in 1994. Riding in a van from Hanoi and Haiphong to Dalat, Danang, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City for two weeks is a bonding and hopefully character-building experience. Rest in peace, old friend. Here he is, photographing a grandfather in Hanoi.

I worked with Dan at CUNY for 1 year. In that short period of time, I visited his home in Croton and enjoyed spending time with him during our work breaks. Dan was a great person ... the type of person the world needs more of. I will miss Dan.

Dan was on the Lehman College staff when I joined in 1988 as director of college relations. He and I went to Vietnam in 1994 with a group of Lehman students. It was a wonderful trip. I'll never forget the morning in Hanoi when we both got up at daybreak to photograph farmers bringing their produce to a outdoor market. It was magical. Donald was a sweet, quirky, funny, smart ad loving friend.

A message to the Teatown Area Neighborhood Network (TANN):
An obituary in today's TIMES prompts this tribute. Daniel Shore, we are told, died September 7.
As an early member of TANN, Dan quietly established himself as one whose few words were always well-timed, eminently sane and usual droll.
When voices got shrill, he managed to cool things down. When a major neighborhood issue threatened to pull TANN apart, he was a centrifugal force. Knowing little about him, I had hoped that his absence from TANN was temporary. I am saddened to learn that he is gone from the rest of our lives.
