Robert Staires Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 4, 2010.
Robert (Bob) Staires, 68, went to be with Our Lord and Savior on September 3, 2010 due to an accident.

Bob was born October 5, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lester and Dorothy Staires. He served in the Unites States Army. Bob had a long career in the gas industry with Valero Energy and leaves behind many business friends that were like family.

He attended Open Road Biker Church and enjoyed fishing, riding, hunting, camping, and reading. Bob most enjoyed giving of himself and his time both to family and to others. He always had an entertaining story to tell. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.

Bob is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sherry; his daughter, Carla Staires and her sons Michael and Aaron and daughter Sarah; his son, Jimmy Van Loozen and his wife Susan and their sons Brian, Brandon, Dustin and daughter Laci; his daughter, Kellie and her husband Mark Mays and their children, Cameron, Garrett and Kylee; his son, Ryan Staires and his wife Carly and their newborn Caleb; other grandchildren, Candace, Wesley, Christopher and Chelsea; and his mother, Dorothy Bettis. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Darla Stanford and his father Lester Staires.

Bob enjoyed the last few months of his life to the fullest with his church family that opened their hearts to him and his entire family. This church is like none other. They stood by Bob and his family from the time of the accident to the end and still continue to be with his family. He had never enjoyed life more.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas, followed by a procession to Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Pastor Butch Horton of Open Road Biker Church will officiate.

Arrangements by Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 (512)863-2564.

Bob was our mentor, our co-worker, but most of all our friend. He was also kind and respectful to everyone. The many years we worked together will always be a special memory for us. How I loved to hear Bob laugh!

I am so sorry to hear about Bob. Bob was always an inspiration to me. The times we went fishing or chatted at church or at the house, will always be remembered. He loved his wife and family!

I am truly sorry to hear about Bob. Some of the happiest times of my working life include those days at Valero with Bob, Mike Schubert, Pat Kotara, Sherwood Brown, Donna Scoggin and Sherrie Saenz. There was truly never a dull moment and I have wonderful memories! Thanks, Bob and all, for the memories. You are in my prayers. Much love to Sherry and Ryan.
