I met Dan as a Realtor in the California desert; we were with the same brokerage. While we only met in person a couple of times - and corresponded, or conversed, professionally, a few times after that - a friendship developed, and deepened, when Dan re-emerged in the spring of 2015 on social media, after a particularly dark time in his life (that I hadn´t been aware of, until he told me) and we re-connected there. We shared anecdotes, jokes, banter, advice, and personal confidences. There were also some shared coincidences: we were both from a family of four; we both had a sister; both our sisters were named Julie. We had both been married, and divorced; Dan´s birthday (May 31) happened to be my former wife´s birthday. I was extremely happy for him at the birth of his son; I felt Dan had finally, fully, emerged, and (it appeared) very happy. It was evident how much he loved his boy (who turned 4 yesterday, on September 7). I used to always make a point of wishing Dan - and then, Arron - a Happy Birthday. It´s a gross understatement to say that I´m shocked to learn that Dan is gone - and that he´s been gone for over a month already - at the age of only 46 - leaving his stunning lookalike son without his Dad. I really feel my heart is broken, and - given the extended, largely telecom and online basis for much of our relationship, I can´t even begin to fathom - much less express, in words - what the loss must be like to his family and friends who knew his directly, personally, and intimately throughout his life. All I can offer is my deepest, most profound, sympathy. I am very grateful to have known him, and I will remember him always.
