The Dan I remember had aspirations to be the next Ansel Adams. He comes back to me now from a long-ago moment in Grenada. Dan was given instructions by a junior officer who then ordered Dan to repeat what he had just said. Dan, who by habit took in a thousand times more than he let on, said: "No-sir, I am not going repeat what you just said. I am not five goddamn years old. I am an NCO in U.S. Army intelligence." Dan then fulfilled the since long forgotten task. A great friend and inspiring peer. Sorry to let so much time slip by, Sherry.

Happy 65th Celestial Birthday in Heaven, Dan.

I dedicated this final trout fishing day to you, dear friend and mentor. I left my gear at home and just admired the wild trout in a private and hidden icy stream near our home. They are splendid and noble.

As you are now, for eternity.

Our continuing, deepest and most passionate prayers to your family.

I only recently learned of Dan's passing and was terribly saddened by it. I knew Dan when we were both stationed in Frankfurt and Heidelberg. I had the absolute pleasure of working directly with him as his OIC in Heidelberg for a period of time. He was the consummate professional in all things. He was a patient mentor who taught me the details of a highly technical field and provided me with a professional development opportunity that challenged the way I had previously thought. Humble and quiet, I also learned that Dan was among the foremost linguists in his field, not from him, but from his professional colleagues who told me how lucky I was to work with him. Dan was a professional of the highest order and a man of unshakable integrity. My prayers go out to Sherry and his sons, and all who were lucky enough to know him.

The entire Tuttle family....

Lillian & I had the deepest pleasure of Dan's company several times when his professional services were needed in New England. I recall suggesting he skip going into Boston's Logan International Airport and, instead, fly into our smaller, more congenial, clean Manchester, NH Airport instead. He did just that and I often picked him up which was great for us both. We often talked "trout" and hoped to wet lines together SOON!

Lillian & I shared suppers with Dan every time he was in New Hampshire....his passion for our traditional fresh, fried clams was fun to watch!

Dan was "classic, OLD SCHOOL" in matters of being a gentleman, his deportment, his conduct, a skilled & natural listener, HUMILITY & INTEGRITY....plus a good dose of his personal humour. A very strong, yet gentle man.

Writing this tribute is akin to the same heartbreak and shock as to when I lost my parents some years ago. However, my wife & I are *better people* for having had Dan in our lives. The friendship and trust he extended us are gifts we shall take with us into eternity when The Good Lord calls us home one day.

The Almighty and His Son were generous to have brought Dan into our lives. May THEY both give the Tuttle family THEIR divine graces to ease your hurt and sadness.

*Until we meet again, dear, dear Dan, our marvellous friend*

God speed to you, with love
