Daniel Joseph "Woody" Woodburn, 59, of 45 Ridge Road, Waverly, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home following an extended illness.

Dan was born in Waverly, N.Y. on Aug. 8, 1954, the son of Blanche Bennett Woodburn and the late Reese Woodburn. In early years, he lived in Elmira Heights, N.Y., Florida and later moved to Athens to attend school. He was a graduate of Athens Area High School's class of 1972 and subsequently served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1974 to 1977.

Following completion of his military service, Dan was employed by Kohler, Inc. in Florida and in years to follow was employed locally by Calvin Cole Construction, Douglas Brothers Paving, Croft Ford and the Bradford County Correctional Facility until his health began to decline. Dan was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed motorcycle riding, NASCAR and football. He also enjoyed his extensive collection of milk bottles and dairy memorabilia.

Dan was a member of Athens American Legion Post No. 246, the Disabled American Veterans Association and the North Barton Grange. He was a life member of Skiff-Bower VFW Post 1536, Sayre. Dan loved his family and was a dedicated husband and father. He had a true zest for life and actively lived it to the fullest. He has left his mark on the hearts of those who loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy L. Brown Woodburn, whom he married on July 3, 1986; his daughter, Rachel R. Woodburn and Ben "Bean" Bullock of Candor, N.Y.; mother, Blanche Carlin of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Linda and Carl Nichols of Apopka, Fla., Kathy Scott of Titusville, Fla.; brothers, Michael Woodburn of Fallon, Nev., Patrick Woodburn of Apopka, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, cousins; lifelong friend, Tim Heskell; many good friends and his best pal, Stinky.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reese Woodburn, on Oct. 4, 1969.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa., with the Valley Color Guard according full military honors.

The family suggests that contributions be directed to the Waverly or Tioga Central Football Teams in Dan's memory.

Dan will surely be missed,Dan never met a stranger,he always acted like he knew who you were and would come right up and talk to you,he was always there for me when I needed him to be,and never complained about it,I will definitely miss him and I know a lot of others will also,Rest in Peace Dan "Woody" Woodburn,I will see you later.
