BROWNWOOD Danny Joe "D.J." Allen, age 23, of Brownwood, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2009.


His body will be cremated under the direction of the Heartland Funeral Home in Early.


A memorial service honoring D.J.'s life will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Cross Plains rodeo arena in Cross Plains, Texas.


D.J. was born on Oct. 2, 1985, in Fayetteville, N.C.

He attended elementary and junior high in Odessa, and then graduated from Coahoma High School. He was a member of the Christian Athletes Association and graduated with an associate's degree in Animal Science from Howard Junior College in Big Spring, which he attended on a rodeo scholarship.
D.J. had a real passion for bull riding, and had made many friends over the years; he had been involved with rodeo since the age of seven. D.J. had been a resident of Brownwood the last four years, and was formerly of Odessa.


Survivors include parents, Meridath and Joann Sayles of Brownwood; two brothers, Shawn Sales of Palmer and Thomas Robideau of Austin; sister, Brandy Sayles of Houston; grandmother, Nita Warren of Odessa; grandfather, Don Slator of Odessa; two nephews, Laramie Sayles and Caden Sayles; and niece, Amanda Robideau.


He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bobby Joe Warren.
