Butch was born August 28, 1954, to the late Claude "Bud" McCloud and Freeda Bartley McCloud. Butch's career in the mental health field started in high school when he'd work at summer camps for at-risk youths. His desire to help those in need led him to seek a higher education. He earned a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976 and would go on to earn his M.S. in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in 1982. Butch worked at numerous facilities after college, most notably Oak Hill and later private practice, where he was loved by his patients. While working at the Bristol Mental Health Center, Butch first met an intern by the name of Barbara Godfrey. Butch and Barbara married on October 10,1981. They spent 42 blissfully wedded years together. Although Butch is most known for his years as a social worker and therapist, he was also well known at Maryville Little League as Coach Butch. His love for people and impact on the community will be felt for years to come.

Butch is survived by his wife Barbara, older son Alex and his wife Ava, and younger son Ethan. In addition, he is survived by his siblings Michael (Patricia), Jeff (Shannon), Susan (Billy), Liesa, and James (Brenda). The service for Butch will be held on March 23rd from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Life Event Center at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service in Maryville, TN. Butch would have loved to have family, friends, patients, and community members attend these services to reminisce with each other over stories of his numerous quirks, heartwarming deeds, and preposterous jokes. Come to the service and share these stories - nothing would make Butch or his family happier. Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
