Daphne Brooks Prout

Daphne Brooks Prout died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on April 2, 2017 at the age of 100. Daphne was a woman of great grace and beauty – in each and every best sense of the words. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she adored. Daphne was a great lover of nature's beauty and bounty. She played the violin, was a watercolor painter, an inspired gardener, and a lover of classical music. Daphne served as a Deacon of The Dover Church. Daphne was also a member of several garden clubs, painting groups, and a play reading group. As a member of the Ladies Committee Daphne gave tours at the Museum of Fine Arts. She was also a dedicated volunteer guide at The New England Wildflower Society in Framingham. Daphne was a lifelong attendee of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Friday afternoon concerts; additionally she was an Overseer of The Boston Symphony, with a special interest in Tanglewood. Daphne was born in Boston on April 20, 1916. She was the second child of Gorham and Rosamond Brooks. As a child and young woman she lived and was educated in Boston and Brookline. After her marriage in 1939, she lived most of her life in Dover, MA. Daphne is survived by four daughters: Diana Cherot, Daphne Cook, Rosamond Warren and Phyllis Prout. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Curtis Seth Nichols, Melinda Willis, Larry and Willy Cook, and Asa Brosius. Daphne had seven great grandchildren: Curt, Maggie and Scott Nichols, Brooks Willis, Natalie, Abby and Jamie Cook. Daphne is also survived by her great friend and wonderful caregiver, Anita Seaver. Daphne was predeceased by her sister, two brothers, and her former husband Curtis Prout. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Daphne's memory may be made to The Friends Office - Boston Symphony Orchestra 301 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA 02115; or The New England Wildflower Society 180 Hemenway Road, Framingham, MA 01701. A memorial service will be held at the Dover Church, 17 Springdale Avenue in Dover, MA on Saturday, April 15th. at 2pm.
