Darlene Spaulding Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 27, 2025.
Darlene Marie Spaulding (nee Goodlett), 62, of Brentwood, CA, passed away on March 02, 2025. She was born on October 22, 1962, in New London, CT. She is preceded in her death by her father Duane Wallace Goodlett.

Darlene passed away peacefully at home with her husband Rick by her side. She had fought a brave and valiant battle with cancer for several years and had been frequently hospitalized the last few months. Darlene was a devoted wife and mother. Her life revolved around her husband Rick, and her sons, Noah and Haden.

Darlene grew up as a self-described "Navy Brat", residing in several places around the states prior to ending up in San Diego, CA where she graduated from Mira Mesa High School. Growing up she was a baton twirler for the Optimist Band of San Diego, played Bobby Sox softball, and later was on the Country Dance team for In Cahoots.

Rick, Darlene, Noah, and Haden relocated to Brentwood, CA in 2003 when Rick's role at the Department of Defense was transferred to the Bay Area. They bought a home in a new development that was being built while they were still in San Diego and moved in when it was completed along with many of the neighbors around them. With all the young families moving in at the same time they developed a special bond with all the new neighbors and the "The Honeysuckle Gang" was created. Summer block parties and water slides became the norm. Neighbors were always welcome and neighbor kids floated from house to house. It was a perfect place to raise a family, and the family flourished.

Darlene was a passionate and talented scrapbooker, and her creations were amazing. She also enjoyed putting together photo albums with notes and comments. Darlene spent a lot of time researching genealogy, and she documented family history back hundreds of years. She also enjoyed camping, off road motorcycling, and followed the professional motocross circuit. However passionate she was about anything though; her family was always her first love.

Darlene is survived by her husband Rick and her sons Noah and Haden of Brentwood, her mother Dorothy Olson of San Diego, Ca, her sister Debbie Kelly-Slaughter and brother in law Shannon Slaughter of Scotts Valley, Ca, her sister Danielle Goodlett and her partner Heather Johnson of Ramona, Ca, Her nephews Ryan Slaughter of Aptos, CA, and Joshua Kelly of Victoria, TX, and her nieces, Erin Slaughter-Vuong of San Jose, Ca and Carlee Johnson of Apple Valley, CA.

Dar, it seems like just yesterday when we met. We have so many fun shared memories whether it was a command holiday party or hanging out watching our boys play and grow. You were so good at keeping me sane during EJs deployment. Your love and friendship meant the world to me. You will always be a huge part of my life, in my heart and remembered always. Love you girl!

Darlene was like a second mother to me, she always gave her insightful advice coupled with her witty jokes and laughs. She made sure we were taken care of like we were her own. I´ll always cherish and love those memories forever. I always felt like I had a home and was welcomed. I know she is in a better place, god rest her soul and I will cherish all the moments I´ve had over the years.

Darlene,
You have always supported me in any idea I would throw your way, because of that my family and I have 20+ years of memories that I will forever be grateful for.
Together we planned holiday parties, BD parties, block parties, day trips with the kids, snow trips lake trips all of which led us to years of scrap booking those memories and overnight scrap expo trips.
You were the best scrapbooking buddy & shopping buddy a girl could ask for.
I will miss my friend who loved all things sweet especially chocolates as much as I did, who appreciated a chili cheese dog, root beer float lunch more than a steak.
More recently thank you for coming to my "old lady" concerts with me when no one else would and signing up for musicals no one else wanted to see, you would have loved this last one. Thank you for all the memories, rest easy my friend.......and if you had any say in my Giants coming from behind to win on Opening day, TY

Dar there are no words to express how much I miss you every single day. I thank you for the daily signs that I see telling me that you are here every day beside me. You are the one person in my life that always tried to keep me grounded, even as difficult as that was most of the time! I miss our daily "car ride karaoke" conversations so much and know that you understand why I talk to you still all the way home. I love you and thank you for everything you are to me and your amazing family. I miss you sista´!
