DARRELL J. "SAM" BASS (August 21, 1929 - June 27, 2001) born in Oakland on August 21, 1929, life long resident of Alameda County, died at home in Pleasanton June 27, 2001, aged 71 years. Darrell served proudly as a Sergeant in the US Army. He devoted 31 years as a peace officer with the Alameda County Sheriffs Department, where he retired in 1984, as a Sergeant. Sam, as he was known to most, also graciously volunteered many years for county and law enforcement events (i.e. cookouts). He was a member of the Pleasanton Masonic Lodge #321. Sam is survived by his loving family; beloved wife of 42 years, Lois Bass of Pleasanton, sons, Kirk Bass and his wife Polly of Oregon and Jay Bass of Pleasanton and sister, Shirley Skobel of Arkansas. He also leaves behind 4 adored grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, Sean and Laura Bass, his aunt Una Hargrove and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service Monday, July 2, 2001, 2:00 p.m. at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton, CA 94566 (925) 846-5624 BURIAL: San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine, CA DONATIONS: American Diabetes Association, 631 Howard St., #520 San Francisco, CA 94105 Arrangements were under the careful direction of Graham-Hitch Mortuary
