Lorraine & I date our early dating days from visits to the Braidwoods' house on Newton Wynd, where Darrell played us his new Barbara Streisand LPs ("people who need people" seemed to be his favourite people), where Barbara (it seemed) was always preparing for their next cocktail party (to which invariably would be invited all Lynne's friends -- together with far more esteemed people), and where Darrell would graciously reminisce about his recent trip to Ethiopa, say, to where some of us who'd not yet flown in an airplane had earlier seen him off from the old viewing platform at tiny YVR, or whatever it was then called, his jetliner lifting dreamily into the sky. Darrell Braidwood seemed to us the very model of a father, husband, and member of the larger community. He and Barbara were always indulgent of the young and generous to the friends of their children. We will miss above all his cheerful and balmy nature.

We will remember Darrell for his marvellous sense of humor, his generous and kind spirit and his great wisdom. He will be missed, but the angels in heaven will be happy to have him among them.
