Darrell G Seering

I tried to send a card to Christine and the family but I do not have the correct address so it was returned.
I happened to see the obituary in the paper regarding Darrells's passing. It was sort of serendipitous that I ran across this because I never get the paper. However, I was sincerely grateful that I did see this very sad news.
My heart is heavy for the family.
Although I have not seen Darrell and Christine for many years I was always so excited to see them . I really enjoyed talking to them. Darrell was an exception man in many ways. I appreciated his many talents. When his children attended Hamburg Elementary Darrell made a beautiful wooden sign with the school motto.
There is no question that he will be missed.

I got to know Darrell when my son was in his boy scout troop. One weekend we took some of the kids out to ride the Poto, a local, well-known hiking and bicycle trail. It was a good place to get seriously injured, and he did. He hit some loose sand , went down. I was able to avoid him, but some of the kids couldn't. He got ran right over and ended up with a good shoulder injury. After a few minutes the kids realized that the adults were no longer with them, and they came back and found us lying in the dirt. These kids jumped into action. A few of them went about a hundred feet up the trail to warn upcoming bicyclists that there was a problem ahead. The rest of them started rigging up a sling, out of their shirts and put it onto his shoulder. They also figured out how to rig up a stretcher, to haul him someplace. One of the kids was even looking at a map to figure out where we were, and where they were going to take him. And they loaded him up and started carrying him to safety. Fortunately, another bike rider, who was also an EMT, and was equipped with a bag phone/ cell phone, rode up on us and sort of took over. He was able to call out on his phone and arrange for a helicopter rescue at a nearby road crossing. These kids got him there, watched their leader get whisked away to the hospital, and we were finally able to finish the bike ride, less Darrell. A few months later, at a troop awards ceremony, he gave all those kids who were involved, special recognition, and some sort of special award that he had made up in his wood shop. After that ceremony, when none of the scouts were present, he admitted to us that that rescue effort was one of the most painful times of his life, and that during the stretcher ride, carrying him out to the road, he, under his breath , was cursing out all of those kids for inflicting so much pain on him. And in the few years that I knew him, I never knew him to curse. He was a good guy

Darrell and I met in scouting years ago where he mentored Bruce Rentz and then myself into running the High Adventure Bike trips to Maryland with the scouts.

Your husband and father was wise, thoughtful, and a giving man ... it was a joy sharing a campfire with him.

Darrell had a big heart...
So much so I witnessed his heart being in two places at the same time, - let me explain... As my memory serves me - we were a day or two into our trek across Maryland and Darrell got a call from (I believe it was) Matthew... things were not good... Even thou Darrell´s heart was in Maryland helping the scouts and miles away from family, make no mistake, his heart was with Matthew throughout our whole trip. I want to thank you for sharing your husband and father with us.

All the scout outing we shared, will forever be a memory in our hearts.

We have wonderful memories of working with Darrell at the Brighton State Police Post. So sorry to hear of his passing. Though we cannot make the visitation, please know our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family in your time of sorrow. May the wonderful memories of Darrell as a husband, father, & grandfather comfort you all.

Darrell Seering was a truly one-of-a-kind smart, adventurist, compassionate, man of faith. Once you met Darrell you had an immediate friend, and I will miss our conversations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chris, her family, the Merrill siblings, and friends. May you embrace the memories as you celebrate the life of this wonderful man.

We will long for the days when we would watch Darrell drive up the road to the Lake house. Then shortly thereafter come down in the golf cart, with cigar in hand and sit on the deck and share his stories. Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts.

I was a fellow classmate of Darrell's in the Michigan State Police 86th Recruit School. Nothing in his wonderfully written obit surprised me. A life well-lived and gone too soon. Sincere condolences to his extended family.

Darrrell & Chris have been such good friends to us. Memories will warm our hearts & bring smiles to our lips. He was one of a kind who will be greatly missed. Good bye until we join you in heaven.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.

Mr. Seering was one of the scoutmasters that were willing to be there as a surrogate father when mine was not around and after my grandfather died. He is part of the reason I am who I am today. He gave me a gift I can never repay, so I can only do my best to play it forward.

What a great great spirit. So many wonderful memories. Huge vacant loss.
