Darren,
You will be missed. It has been a long time since we trained together at Powerhouse in Montreal. All those good times with friends, Marco, Tasso, Danny, Marlene and many others. I still think about when we would all go car pushing.
I was sad to learn of your passing, I would have liked very much to reconnect. Much love to you and your family.

Darren, I am very late in finding out about your passing.
I am speechless, for I always thought I would fid you in some gym teaching the ways of getting the most intensity out of your work out, or getting the best form possible to really focus on getting those hardest to get results. You taught me how to work out for the shape and the feel, with Kevin and Marco and Franco, getting those midnight workouts precontest.... u were an idol to many, to me. I will never forget you bro , and will always cherish our time working out together. To the man whose greatness spawned the rock gym logo....i wish you restful peace and know you will be missed hardcore.
ps- ull always be wearin those damn sweaters that hung off u like no tomorrow...and that cap no matter what!
peace bro

D, sorry I'm a little late. I'm proud to have known you from our days at The Rock Gym in Montreal. I'll never forget the time I came for an interview at Extreme, and ran into you after 8 years of no contact. I regret not hanging out more. I know the Montreal connection we had meant a lot to you. Thank you for everything my man.

So sad to hear this, I had the pleasure of working with Darren when I first got into the fitness business.. Darren was one of the very first people to genuinely take the time out of his day to give me tips and pointers to be successful in the business. He told me one tip in particular that was the main key to the success i found in such a short period of time - I cannot thank him enough for it. He told me there are great people everywhere, and when you find them, do all you can to learn from them, you get their back and they'll have yours and they can take you places. I was promoted to management within a year. Darren, you are sorely missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting or working with you. RIP buddy, and thank you so much.

From the moment I first met you I knew you were someone special. Our days at Madison are still some of my fondest memories in my career and in my life. I have yet to find a team that close and you were at the center of it all.

You are an inspiration to me. Brother, I still refer to you when I teach others about the PT business. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed. You will not be forgotten.

Darren was one of my favorite people to work with at Extreme Fitness. He always had a smile and words of encouragement. His optimism was contagious. My Aunt had the privilege of training with him and I remember her being excited both before and after her sessions. I'll miss you Darren, we all won't forget you though - RIP.

When I heard the news, i was shocked. It is too late to regret that we didn't spend more time together. Its a huge loss for a lot of people including myself. As many great people, Darren Oliver didn't just die. There is something he left in people, whose lives he touched: his knowledge he shared openly, understanding, passion. I thank you, Darren, for everything i got from you. I thank God for giving me this wonderful opportunity to know you and to work with you. You will be remembered.

What can I say Darren? It has been almost a week, and I am still in shock! I still look for your bag by the shake bar @ fitness 365! I am still waiting for you to text me on when we can train! I am still waiting for your motivational push when I am feeling down! I think it was not time for you to go! I still needed your coaching, and mentoring. I guess I don't have a choice but to say Goodbye, or maybe see ya later! See ya soon my friend! You will be missed! But whatever you have taught me I will never forget it and will pass it on to the next person! I can say this....I am very lucky to have had someone like you in my life!
R.I.P Darren!

I can't find the words to fully express my sorrow caused by passing away of such a great guy as Darren. He was truly a great friend and a great teacher.
Thank you Darren for teaching us, for always being able to find time for us, for being a true gentleman and for all the great moments all of us shared with you. You will always be in our hearts.

Darren I will never forget how wonderful you were to me at my first session. I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but somehow you made me feel as if I was doing great. Your warmth and easy going manner put me at ease right away. When you came for Thanksgiving dinner with my son Rob, you were so thoughtful and so much fun! I know he is going to find it very difficult training without you. You were more than just his coach, you were a true friend who genuinely cared. You had a very unique gift of making people feel special. We will never forget you. God Bless.

Rest easy Darren. Although I didn't know you well...it was always great to see you at the Dunfield and we had some good chats when we ran into each other in the neighbourhood. One of the kindest hearts I have ever met. You will be missed.

Darren, you were loved by, and will be missed by so many. I don't think that you were fully aware of how many lives you have touched, including mine. There is a Russian saying that states: "If people remember you fondly, love you, and are speaking of you after your passing, you will always live". Blessed Be, Darren my friend.

Darren! From the moment I met him I knew I was in the presence of a good person. We shared a common passion for training, both ourselves and that passion showed through when we trained our clients. You were my best friend Darren. You were the father I never had. My heart is hurting for you. I miss you so much. I feel so fortunate to have been able to see you every day. I miss getting your texts before bed just checking up on me and saying goodnight every night, it's hard to go to sleep without hearing from you. We had such a special relationship, we really understood each other on another level. I'm so grateful to have had the privilege of being so close with you. I learned so much from you, not just training but about life. You developed me mentally and physically, I am the person I am because of you. No one believed in me more than you did. Our plans for moving to LA together in September won't be happening but I will continue to fulfil OUR dreams! I just want you to know that Hany is guiding me through this tough time and keeping me on track, as you told me it was your wish to train someone being prepped by Hany, I really wanted to make you proud D. Making you proud was my ultimate goal. I know what you want me to do D and I'm going to do it for you. It's so hard to believe and accept that you're gone but WE'RE still a team! I love you D. Thank you for everything you have done for me and all the knowledge you have instilled in me. Thank you for devoting so much of your time to me, I'm going to really miss our Friday and Saturday night workouts with the gym to ourselves and you correcting me on how to pick up a dumbbell like five times before letting me start the set lol. It's going to be weird not hearing you scream “boom” when I hit poses on stage, those booms always made me feel so confident. We made a good team D and we're still a team. I love you Darren and may you rest in peace. “That's THE set!!!!” “not amazing...........AMAZING”

Love,
John

December 11, 2011

Here's a photograph of me and Darren Oliver at the 2011 Flex Invitational Bodybuilding Championships in Los Angeles, California. It reminds me of not just one of the best times I had with Darren but one of the best times I had in my life! Apparently (and I say "apparently" because I am still in disbelief), Darren passed away in the early morning of Thursday, December 8th, in his home in North Toronto.

For those of you who don't know, Darren played an instrumental role in my win at this year's Canadian National Bodybuilding Championships. He trained me for the entire year leading up to Nationals. He believed in me as much, if not more than I believed in myself! And knowing the man that he was, it's safe to say that he made all his friends/clients feel the same way! I can only aspire to have the same influence on the people I train, as he had on me.

Darren, you've become an integral part of who I am today. Your legacy and spirit will live on in everyone who's lives were blessed by your presence. Thank you so much Big "D" for everything you've done for me, the athletes you train and the subculture of bodybuilding! A true innovator. You will always be remembered my brother.

Until we meet again,
Michael

R.I.P - Darren Oliver - Personal training at best . . . We are shocked; We are shaken; We are broken. You inspired us and pushed each one of us to the brink of exhaustion, yet we all came back for another beating. We were empowered and infused by self-belief and felt renewed once we left you . We did not feel an ounce of judgement, but encouragement beyond our doubts. You sculpted us. You created us. And although with all the beliefs that you instilled in all of us; we cannot believe that you have left us . . . Your presence lingers, your beauty unmatched. If only we could have one more day . . . xox Darren

Darren, it is with a heavy heart and overwhelming emotions that I have to say good bye to you. Over 9 years ago I had the honor of meeting you and getting to know you as a friend, trainer and coach to some of the most talented athletes that are under the Darren Oliver team. You helped me to realize some of my dreams and the potential that I had and I hope that you knew at least an ounce of what you were able to do for all of us and this industry. The Canadian Bodybuilding and Fitness Industry has lost one of its biggest and brightest stars, as well as one of the most talented and knowledgeable coaches. You were more to all of us than you will ever know. There are no words to fully express how much your passing will change, influence or inspire those you have taught and those that wanted to be taught by you. You were brought to us for a short loan to touch all of us in a unique way, and I can only hope and pray that one day, we will see that Red Cap again...Your memory is etched in my heart and mind, and never will I ever forget the friendship, love and support you shared with me. Love you Darren....always.
