I have a voice mail on my phone from Darryl that I never erased because I just like to hear his voice sometimes. I sure miss him as my bridge partner and as my friend. Also when I hear his brother Dale I can´t help but smile and remember Darryl. He was one of a kind and always had interesting thoughts to share.

It was my privilege to play softball with Darryl on a couple of teams. I can say that my life was enriched by having known him and counting him as a friend.

For a time, when he was active in the Twilight Tribe Poets group in Grand Rapids, Darryl had an alias. His poet's name was Theo Jones. He had a poet's heart and soul... though I imagine he would scoff if I said that to him. I wish I would have seen him once more. Isn't that the way these things go? Such treasures in his store. Probably the most observant guy I ever knew.

Darryl is a gentleman. Still remember the first time played bridge with him. he mentioned Western cue-bid, 3rd best leading .. etc. I have to admitted that i had no clue what he was talking about.. after he found out i didn't know all of those, he was so patiently to explain all of those things. i learned a lot from him. I miss him so much.

I knew Darryl when he was this cute hippie guy many years ago in Grand Rapids. And much to my surprise many years later, when I walked into the Grand Rapids Bridge Club, there was Darryl! He was an incredibly good bridge player, but most of all he was an incredibly nice guy. He will be missed I'm sure by all his old hippie friends, and all his newer bridge friends, and of course his family.

Sorry to hear of Darryl's passing. He was a great guy and lived life his way. I worked with Darryl doing tree work and had a lot of fun with him bird hunting.

Darryl was my bridge partner ever since I moved to Grand Rapids. I learned so much from him and he was a friend. He could make me laugh and he was always interesting. Darryl had a real soft spot for people and was more kind than a lot of people probably knew. He always had a smile at bridge and he was always nice to new players. I will miss him and forever hear him in my brain as I play. His loss is a loss for our whole club.

Darryl was a quiet man although he had a fierce dedication to economic and social equality. He was also a generous man. In his storefront residence long ago, he had a soup kitchen from which he gave away his homemade chili to neighbors in need. To honor him, I will be making a donation to Feeding America, West Michigan. He was a good man.

I played volleyball with Darryl in the 80s, and was so happy to reconnect with him years later at the bridge table. I will miss him greatly.
