Daryl Bragg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2024.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Daryl L. Bragg on July 14,2024.

Our dad was born in Camden, Maine to William and Lois (Colburn) Bragg on 9/13/1952. The oldest of five, he was by all accounts a sweet, gentle child who loved gardening and spending time with his grandparents who lived next door. He had many small jobs growing up, but was most proud of his paper route, and the fact that it took 3 people to replace him when he gave it up. He ran cross country at Camden-Rockport High School before graduating in 1970. After completing high school, he was encouraged by friends to pursue a theology degree at Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, MA. He left just short of finishing, and moved back to Central Maine where he lived for the majority of his life.

Our dad was an incredibly hard worker, sometimes working 2 or 3 jobs at once to provide a comfortable life for his family. His passion was sales and providing excellent customer service to anyone he came into contact with. He was keen on always doing what was right by the customer, even if it meant bending the rules a little.

The happiest years of his life were spent being a father and Grampy to his two daughters and nine grandchildren. He loved food and loved to entertain, often sharing his famous meatballs and his award winning chili. He was an incredibly hands on father. He supported his girls by working back stage at their dance recitals, attending all of their sporting events and plays, and that carried over with his grandchildren. He joined them on trips to Disney World and to the Florida Gulf Coast, and spent countless hours building them dress up closets and toy boxes. As long as he was able, he was there for every important event in their lives, and also those that weren't very significant at all. They truly were the loves of his life.

Our dad was a devout Christian, and his faith never waivered. He spent most summers attending family camp at Washington Advent Christian Campground and was baptized at the age of 10 in a local lake. His faith community was incredibly important to him; he attended services on Sundays and Wednesdays for as long as he was physically able.

His later years in life were grappled by illness, but it never slowed him down. He thrived on maintaining his independence almost to a fault. He pursed higher education with intense passion, obtaining both his bachelors and masters degrees, and went on to write and publish his book which was a huge passion project for him.

Daryl was predeceased by both parents, his father and mother in law, Stacy and Carolyn Trask, brother in laws Marshall Roy, Tony Cocco, and Tim Trask.

Daryl is survived by his daughters Kari (Jeff) Parson and Kristie Harris of Nashville TN; his grandchildren: Mason Stubblefield of Nashville, Violet and Madeline Parson of Nashville; Moose, Carson, Quinn and Sawyer Harris of Nashville, Anthony Vigue of Winslow, ME and Mykenzie Veilleux of Waterville, ME. His siblings, Darlene (Richard) Manners of Andover MA, Dedde Radley of Rockland, ME, Debbie Samoranos of ME, and Duane (Pat) Bragg of Andover MA; Linda Roy of Waterville ME, Cheryl Michaud (Jerry) of Cincinnati OH, and Tina Boag (Dave) of Oakland, ME. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and extended family members who all meant so much to him.

A private memorial service for his immediate family will be held in Nashville.

A celebration of life for everyone who loved our dad will be held in Maine in Summer 2025.

Uncle Daryl was a huge part of my childhood. For years and years I spent so much time at your house, and he was constantly taking care of all of us while we lounged around. He was selfless and kind, fun and up for anything, and always making the best dad jokes and giggling afterward. I can hear it so clearly right now and see that twinkle in his eye! We had so many adventures together, he made us the best food, and he always made me feel at home there. I look back so fondly on those times, I´ll miss him so much.

Oh I don't even know where to begin. My memories go back over 55 years....teaching me to play chess and scrabble, our talks on our drives to MBNA, endless bbq's, holidays, family shenanigans. Most of all, I remember him being in my corner, always. Thank you, Daryl. I love you.

Memories of your Dad . . Wow, so many: cooking homemade French fries for late night movie watching, arranging our trip to Disney and not caring when all the gummie bears melted in the car and taking oh so many videos of us all walking away from the camera on the trip; building the decking and then putting in the pool at your house and it seems he forever was cooking stuff for us all; the hours of endless chores he did after working all day at Marden´s when you girls were babies - laundry, mowing, and then finally collapsing asleep when he finally stopped. The thing is that the wouldn´t have traded it for anything. I didn´t know him as a grampa, but I knew him as a dad and you girls were the absolute loves of his life.

Kari and Kristie- my sisters from another mister- but that´s not quite right either, because your dad always always always made me feel like a third daughter! From the dance recitals, to sleepovers in Winslow, to shenanigans that he put up with (daisys dog bowl incident) he was just the best. I´d get cards and packages from him and your mom in college and he always made me feel so loved. I´m proud to be your family´s "Regular Jess" and I love you all so much!
