We are so saddened by the passing of Coach David. He played basketball behind our house in Chase Groves and taught our son, Hunter, so much about the game. Hunter thought the world of him. David was a great mentor and such a positive influence on the young children and young adults. He will be deeply missed.

I haven't seen David since the mid-80's, when he lived next door to me in Key West. I have many fond memories and I'm sadden to hear of his passing. I remember him always on the hunt in Key West for a Sapodilla Tree (local fruit tree). To this day when I see a Sapodilla tree, I still think of him. Please accept my most heartfelt sympathies.

Coach Adair taught me so much and pushed me and fellow teammates to our potential. With his guidance, we won the State Championship game.... We made him so proud! David will forever live in my fondest memories. Coaching him in Key West youth baseball is when I learned of his outstanding qualities as a tremendous athlete, and even more so as a caring human being. He valued education, following in his parents footsteps as an educator. His love for sports reflected in his outstanding ability to successfully coach and teach any and all members of the teams he coached. He lived a highly outstanding life and his family should always remember and be proud of his legacy.
So long my good friend (I called him Bullett), from your saddened coach. Donnie Williams

I have had the great honor and pleasure of working with such a wonderful man, teacher, mentor, and coach. David you left us too soon. My heart aches. We many never understand why but, I know God has a higher purpose for you. I will dearly miss your infectious smile and captivating stories about your family, food, and basketball. You always had my back. You were more than a colleague to me. You were like family. I pray that God continues to bless your wife, daughters, grandchildren, and the rest of your family during this difficult time.

Definitely my favorite years of my basketball career were being coached by Coach Adair. He had so much passion for the game, and believed in each player 100% even if they didn't believe in themselves. I will never forget Coach's contagious smile or moves on the sidelines. I think at one point Coach Adair did some version of the worm because of some amazing move Caitlin Healy did where she schooled the opponent heading to the basket. Needless to say, I know my mom as well as many others was definitely entertained of his moves from the bleachers. <3

February 26, 2015

I had the pleasure of working beside Adair this school year. I am new to Seminole high school and new to being an ESE teacher. I haven't taken the time to know many people at the school, but I did know Adair well. Since I am new to ESE he took me under his wing and was always willing to help anyway he could. Everyday we talked about our students academically and personally, and to be honest, not all teachers care to take the time to know students on personal level. We would work together to figure out what was going on with certain students who where acting out of character. even though we didn't teach the same subject area we shared the same love of wanting to see our students succeed.
We also talked about our personal lives and I loved hearing stories about his family. I feel like I know them, without ever meeting them. My heart is breaking for them because I know how deeply they were all loved by him.
Adair had a rare quality of making everyone feel special and successful, but kept things real. I deeply miss walking into our office and having him pick on me by calling me a terminate. I am also very privileged to have had him as my secret Santa. Now my Key Lime Yankee candle will be lit in honor of him and his love of sharing his love of Key West with me.
I miss him very much, and to his family I am so sorry for your loss.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to those loved ones he left behind; especially Kim, their lovely daughters and grands who proudly called him Papa David. I pray you find peace and strength in each other and your shared memories of him in the days ahead. Death of a loved one is hard enough especially when sudden and you did not have a chance to say your goodbyes. Coach Adair was truly one in a million. I came to know him at Lake Highland and in a world of athletics, he was warm and gentle soul. I was also fortunate to have him as a teacher in morning "Weights" and learned far more about life than the bench press. He was a funny endearing guy. If you knew him, you were friends. He touched countless lives and I am sure he has a hoops game going in heaven. Prayers to his family and friends.

February 25, 2015

Well, I worked with Dave for Eight years at LHPS... My battles with Dave on the court was one that only him and I could understand... We both spent our lunch break playing one on one and when I say battle I mean battle... I have a broken nose today because we both dove for a loose ball and the results ended with the ball in his hands and me a broken nose... Dave was a winner... he also taught me how to peel and orange in Key West style. Taught me what good black beans and Rice is suppose to taste like. Dave was just simply at ease with him self and I always admired that about him... Thank you for being such a fine example, and to one warrior to another...."Rest in Peace"

I regret never having the opportunity to know David well. Warrior Hall is almost on the other side of the world to us who teach in Tomahawk. If I had known that you spoke fluent Italian, I would have followed you around to pick up the language that I also love. Every time that I study or read Italian, I will think of your smile and the impact that had on your students and followers. You are gone too soon for a reason that we may never know. My prayers are for your family, friends, and students, who will feel your impact for eternity. David, you mattered, and your life had a purpose!! Please keep an eye on us from above. You will be missed!

Throughout my life I have often wondered how my life would be measured by others when I no longer walk this earth. After watching David, day-after-day, I can say that he embodied all of the qualities that make for a life truly lived. His love and compassion for his fellow man, and his devotion to his family, are the true measure of a human being and their impact on the world. My husband, Patrick, and I hope that your family finds solace in the respect, love, and admiration that is felt by all the lives David touched. David was one of the kindest people I've ever known. I taught English with him for three years at New Smyrna Beach High School, and he never failed to add an interesting historical account to any lesson I taught. His passion for cooking was my good fortune, and one of my fondest memories is of him bringing me a donut every morning when I was pregnant. I will miss his smile, his kind heart, and his extravagant stories. I know he was loved and will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and the students whose lives he touched.

Rest in Paradise Coach Adair. I never thought a teacher would have so much impact on me. I wish you were here to tell you I love and appreciate you being my teacher although I saw you more as a father figure. Maybe that is why I can't believe you are gone. Whatever you are doing up there please make sure you look over me and guide me when I tend to stray from the path that you would want me to follow.

February 25, 2015

Hi Adair family, I offer my condolence to you at this time. David taught adjacent to me last year, and came to warm up his lunch just about every day this year. This is the e-mail I sent to our Seminole High Staff in an effort to work through my sadness.
Hello Everyone,

I am sad and in an effort to put on a brave face and stop the tears from flowing down my face, I seek solace in writing. So here it goes.....We know that many of you did not know Mr. David Adair, Coach, or Coach Adair, so on behalf of our Warrior cul-de-sac we thought (Nock, Donna Noll, Sheri Daniels, and Barbara Jackson) we would share a little peek of who he was and what he meant to us.

He came to Seminole last year, and taught self contained English classes, at all grade levels, to ESE students. His room was adjacent to my room and across from Donna's room. I was able to give him material and help him with lessons for his students, and he was able to help with accommodations for my students. Many of Sheri's speech students were on his case load, so she became a support facilitator in his room during several class periods a day. He sought her out on almost a daily basis. As a support facilitator this year, his co-teachers loved the fact that he would just jump in and elaborate on the topic at hand. He loved his students and they loved him. He knew their issues, both personally and professionally and tried to accommodate for those issues. His students sought him out after school, both male and female so that they could talk to him about their issues.

He played professional basketball oversees for many years, and coached for the length of his career. His first year not coaching, was last year at Seminole because he wanted to focus on family. He was a historian, he found joy in tracing his family's lineage, and could trace yours, as he did for Barbara Jackson. He researched her Dad's basketball career and came to share it with her, that was the type of man he was. He was an excellent cook, and made all his family's meals from scratch. He was especially fond of jambalaya and gumbo. He would discuss recipes with our resident baker Donna Noll, and sample her baked products.

Above all he was dedicated to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren (he and his wife were raising several of their grandchildren).

I know that he is making jumpshots in heaven, and trying to get the angels to play a pick-up game, as well as offering cooking tips. My name is Lasheaka Nock.

Coach you have always been the greatest teacher at seminole high and no one will forget, you are now in a beautiful place and with other angels, I know your watching over us and I know ur goal for everyone was to graduate and we are going to do everything to graduate. We always fool around and do crazy stuff but I will have no one to talk sports about and play basketball. Thank you for being the greatest man alive. We all love ya coach

David came into my life during a rough period. After returning from surgery, I met him in Warrior Hall. He stopped me and asked "I want the Coach to help me," and chuckled. I told him that I would help anyone. He heard a student say "Ciao" and began on his history with speaking fluent Italian. From that day on, he spoke to me in Italian and offered to coach me. We joked everyday and he was a pillar in building. He is already missed and no one can take that place. In the immense change, he was a CONSTANT presence that gave us stablility and comfort. I will truly miss him. God bless the Adair family, and know that he impacted so many with him kindness, jokes, laughs, and love. God bless brother David. So sad...too soon. -Renee Mills
