My family and I are so sad to here of the loss of such a great man. He has helped our family move past a number of emotional and physical problems and really has given life to us again!! We met Dr Auten this spring and we laughed and said we were going to just pack him up and take him everywhere we go because he was such a joy to be around. His spirit was a calming presence and he had such a servant heart. Condolences to his family as all of those who had the priviledge to know him realize your great loss. From myself, three of my daughters, my son, my son in law and my mother in law we will learn to think a new way and let the healing dr auten did for us carry us the rest of our lives. Farewell gentle giant and thank you!!

We have known Dave for over 40 years. Me, since middle school. We had just gotten Dave back in our lives this year and spent many hours reminicing about years gone by. Oh the jokes he could tell--always on!! I just loved his giggle! He was truly the best, kind, loving man we have ever known. Even our little rescue Yorkie loved him and he doesn't trust men! He also was our Doctor, helping us with the pain in my shoulder and the tumor in Kathy's head. There was nothing he wouldn't have done for us. He will always be our "gentle giant" and we will have a special place in our hearts.

I, too, got to know Dave while working at the B'n'B in Dunwoody. I have many, many memories from that time period. He and I dressed up NY's eve of '78 as the old and new year. I was in a chef's coat as a diaper while Dave wrapped himself in a tablecloth for his robe and a mop for his hair. It was such a hit that I performed it every NY's eve for the next 30 yrs. His boisterous laugh was infamous for it usually meant that he'd just gotten you with a real zinger at your expense, which I was happy to pay just in the hope that it would be followed by a regaling of another of his wild stories. He and Terry Moore could really tag team us rubes. On a serious note, he was the first Dr to figure out that my painful hip issue was due to a short leg, thereby saving me years of pain in the future. I will miss him and wish I could afford to be in Atlanta for his memorial, for it will be a whole lot of laughs, just perfect for Dave, love and peace, "The Baron"

Our thoughts and prayers are with you! What a blessing it was that this precious man was a part of your family....much too short tho. Mrs. Auten, you raised a marvelous person. Dr. Auten had the ability to make one feel at ease immediately. We will miss his friendship and delightful sense of humor so much! God bless you with peace and comfort.

Although I hadn't had the privilege of meeting and being treated by Dr. Auten until last year, he very quickly became a light unto my life, and I will miss him dearly. My condolences to the family. I understand your loss and grieve with you, yet remain blessed to have known him.

I first met Dave when I worked lunches for the Beef & Burgundy Tower Place, Atlanta and he was my manager. Everyone at the restaurant had a nickname- Ron was Monk, for monkey because his ears stuck out, Bob was “O” for Ostrich because he had a long neck, etc. Dave picked my name, “Pooh”, because as a waiter I tried to do a good job but always fell a little short, like Winnie the Pooh. The name stuck and to this day the restaurant gang still calls me Pooh. He was my chiropractor until I left Atlanta for Chicago and I lost touch for a number of years. We reunited again at Corky's 60th birthday party where we all shared funny stories from the restaurant days. It was a marvelous evening. I last saw him 1 ½ years ago, (I live in Florida now), when he helped me with my back after an operation. I will miss his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Those years I knew him are some my most cherished memories. My condolences go out to his family. Try not to grieve too much but dwell on the good that he passed on to others. Dave was a wonderful, kind person.

Words cannot express our loss of this great man and his healing touch. Dr. Auten you will be so greatly missed by me and so many for touching our lives in a way that most cannot. I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family for their loss. I was Dr. Auten's last patient that early evening and felt the need to give him a big hug, and I am so glad I did! He was his usual happy self trying to make everyone else happy too!
