David was only part of my life for the last twelve years, Once I got to know him, our relationship grew. We talked at least once a week on the phone and I was always impressed with his transparency and terrific outlook on life.
He and I became best buds. I will miss him.

Dan Balfe,

First, let me give my condolence to you, Dave's mom and all your family. David was a part of our family, all the relatives knew him, the children grew up seeing him as extended family, and Dave was Bryan's best friend. David had great patience and understanding for Bryan and was supportive in his childhood creativity. David would participate in Bryan's imagination, once David informed him he was an actor. I've included two of the small films staring David and Bryan with guest Star Neil.

David was a joy, often telling funny stories, doing long math, loved the drive to Santa Cruz mountains to drop of the campers, loved going over the Golden Gate Bridge on the way to Marin, where he took his course work for DSP Year I & Year II training and gained his two certificates from the Marin Regional Occupational Program in partnership with Department of Social Services of California. Dave was a big part of every job he held, and greeted everyone he encountered at work. In 2008 we won a City Beautification Award, but it was really Dave's work, he took to gardening like a professional, planted the tomatoes, looked after the lemons, the lawn, the trees and nurtured the orchids. Dave also had a special place in his heart for dogs, and the family dogs loved him, he gave them baths, walks and plenty of hugs, they too were his 'Buddies' and shared stories of his family trips. His favorite story was going to the FBI, with a cousin I believe and he was over the moon with his hat and FBI shirt. He breathed all his adventures in and would laugh when telling you the most interesting parts.

David enjoyed life and called every male friend or acquaintance 'Buddy', and they knew he was a good person, a very joyful person that could laugh with you, at funny things in life and at some things he did. David always found the positive in every situation, I am sure he is finding a good welcome by Tia, who he missed for quite a long time...I am glad they are both happy to see each other and catching up on all the stories.

It still hasn't been 40 days since David died. So please keep praying for him.
It seemed like David had a chance to recover and he tried his best. It seemed like he was going to return home and have the determination to keep getting better. He did not give up and it's something that impressed me.
The trip I remember best was when we went to South Lake Tahoe and Reno. Dave and I shared a room and I got to talk with him a lot on the way back. Bryan was just a baby then, and now he's a teenager. Now, with all the social distancing and stuff, it seems like no one cares to hug someone else and now I know David isn't coming back.
I don't trust folks when they say someone is in a better place. So please pray for David's soul and realize that this life is like a drop of water when compared to eternity, which is like an ocean. So don't give up on David. You can pray for him and do so much more when you repent and turn back to the Lord. May David rest in peace.

Today, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adjourned in Daves honor. We recognized his friendly manner, his desire to always be helpful and his love of the Redwood City Senior Center. Dave was a kind soul and his genuine smile will be missed by all he touched. See ya later buddy!

Our deepest condolences to the family. It is difficult to mourn in a time when gathering is restricted. David was warm, outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He was pragmatic and cared deeply for all of the people in his life. He will be missed. Thank you to his parents for his life. Sincerely, the Diaz-Villalta family.

Deeply Saddened by the news of Dave leaving us. He was always such a positive soul. He always graced us with his friendly demeanor, a smile on his face and an interesting story here and there. He meant more to the people around him than I think he knew and I appreciate the time we could know each other.

Many of us in Redwood City will miss Dave. He was a very nice guy who was always trying to learn new skills and improve himself. He would go to the Library to use the computers to look for jobs. Dave had grit, I admired his perseverance when learning new computer programs. He loved music and would check out music CDs that we would play on his CD player as he walked around the City. He was polite and greeted everyone with a smile, a wave and would say How are you doing buddy.

Did David also come to The Grind (next to the Movie Groove) a lot? Did he have a mustache? He looks so familiar and if it's the same David, he was always so sweet and funny and incredibly welcoming anytime I saw him at Century Cinema in downtown Redwood City.

Karen and Dan,
You have Jay and my heart felt condolences.
We didn't know David but believe if he was like his parents he was kind, fun loving and a humanitarian.

It is said that God has a plan for each of us and we don't know when, where or how. David is at peace.

Karen and Dan,
David was with you for almost 60 years. I didn't know your son but if he was anything like his parents, he was a go-getter and a kind loving soul.

We just never know when but it is said, "He" has a plan for each and everyone of us.

You have Jay and my condolences.

Love, Sharon Oberlie Neal and Jay
