So sad that I just learned about Dave. My sincerest, belated condolences to his family. Dave was one of my squad leaders as we served together in the 549th QM Co at Ft Story, VA 86-88. Dave was a warrior Soldier, a gentle man on whom I could confide in as a new Lieutenant. I sought his counsel and became a better officer for it. We had many Soldier experiences together. Dave and I went on a Battle Book tour to Germany in 87 and there I had the privilege of meeting his brother Gerard, in Switzerland. It was a true honor to serve with him.

Dave was one of the best friends I ever had ... We served together with the 25th Infantry in Hawaii 1983-1986 ...Dave was a big man 6'6 and towered above everybody ... One day when I first met him I said ... Hey shorty ... He looked at me hard and laughed ... We became great pals after that ... My wife and I lived 2 blocks from Dave and his family at Aliamanu Army housing - we car pooled to work and would go to the Kailua side of the island on weekends to boogy board ... When my wife Teresa gave birth to our youngest daughter August 3, 1985 Dave and his family took care of my daughter Gina who was 2 for the 2 days We were at Tripler hospital ... He was always a friend you could count on - being 4 years older than me he was like a big brother to me ...After we left Hawaii Somehow he heard I was in NCO school in Virginia and he came and picked me up to spend Thanksgiving with him and Paul at his home in Fort Story, VA ...We didn't stay in touch after the Army --- I am just finding out about his passing today ... Nearly 3 years after ... I am deeply saddened I couldn't say goodbye to one of if not the best friend any guy could have ... Rest in Peace Big Dave ... I'll miss you brother ---

My condolences to Paul and his family ... God Bless ...

Dave and I served together in Fort Hood, TX to include in Desert Storm. He was always a good friend that I maintained contact with for a little while after the war but we eventually lost contact. Tonight after talking with Dave's and my old Company Commander (now General Abrams) I got thinking about him again and figured by now I could find him on Facebook or somewhere. Sadly though this was the site I found first and it just breaks my heart. I wish I would have been able to make contact with him before he left this world so I could have hear his laugh and that strong NE accent that used to make us all laugh. He was a true gentle giant.

I have some photos of him in Desert Storm and when I get home from traveling I will look for those and post them here.

Dave
When my heart breaks, because I miss how you could always make me smile. I remember our last outing together, with Brian as our chauffer you & I sitting in the back seat trying to find a song that had captured your heart as we drove to have your favorite nachos at the Black Cow. Your last words that day will stay in my heart for ever. You said you were ready to meet your maker. You are and always will be a special soul in my heart.
Happy Birthday!
Love Always

Sorry to hear of your loss. I remember David when I first moved to Somerville (from Canada and England) in November 1963. We played in those big old trees and ran though his Dad's big piles of leaves - laughing and playing... with Donna,Barbara, Theresa, Gerard....
