I met Dave at Gluek's in 2005 when I started going to see Root City Band. I soon found myself a regular like Dave. He always greeted me with a smile and a hug-- I'm so sorry to hear he's passed on. God Bless you, man, hope to see you grooving away on the other side.

From weekly football picks, shooting golf balls in the parking lot at empty semi-truck trailers and the occasional Wednesday night reunions, you'll be missed buddy. My heart goes out to your family.

We only knew Dave "Nappy" through mutual Hampton friends, but our deepest sympathy goes out to those who knew him best. Special condolences to his sons and to Carlyn, whom I never got the chance to meet, but admire for her willingness to allow Dave to indulge in his passion for life, friendships and music. It seemed he was never one to miss out on a good party at the Hampton Country Club to reunite with friends, and making new ones along the way.

I, like many, met Dave at Glueks - the local gathering place where Root City brings everyone together on Wednesday nights. He was nothing short of delightful and always a joy to be around. I'll miss Dave and the warm energy he had - gone but not forgotten.

My profound sympathy and condolences to the Batten family. Dave and I go back a long way, starting as boyhood friends in Hampton. When I heard of Dave's passing, memories washed over me like they happened yesterday. The number of things we did and the interests we shared was truly amazing. Dave was an integral part my growing up experience. I will miss him!

I met Dave a few years ago when I realized he was always at the Root City shows I was going to. As we began to talk, we realized we had a lot in common; marriage, families, homes, careers, and the fact that we were almost always the 'oldest guys in the bar' wheneven we were at Glueks. Dave and I bonded as two guys who were lucky enough to have the love, understanding, and support of our families, while indulging our passion for great live music, socializing with like-minded people, and enjoying life. My sincerest condolences to Dave's wife Carlyn, sons Aaron and Evan, and his extended family. I'll miss Dave's friendship, his smile, and his passion for enjoying life.

Nappy I'll never forget the night I met you! The memories from there are some of the best I can remember. You were always fun to be around and I'll miss our traditional golf round before The Cup. Gonna be missing you buddy. Thanks for being a great friend to me and my family.

I've known Dave for only a 4+ short years. I bonded with him immediately with his love for life, music, and happiness! I will miss our weekly chats at Gluecks or Whiteys! Dave was an inspiration to me to keep going even in the hardest and darkest of times!

I have many fond memories of Dave growing up in Hampton, we had a lot of fun together. One of the many memories was playing basketball at Bill Stech's. The rim was lower and we did our best to bring it down with every stuff. I know he and my brother Curt are reunited and shooting hoops again. Sad day me.

Our deepest sympathies to you - Carlyn, Aaron, & Evan. Dave will be missed. My memories go back to sandlot football & baseball, basketball on a narrow driveway with a 20 degree slope, and pole vaulting & high jumping in the back yard in Hampton. Always a good friend. We enjoyed catching up with each other when he came down to Hampton during the summer to play golf.

Dave,

It's hard to put into words all that I want to say...

Our relationship began when I moved to Hampton in 1969... We were classmates and teammates for four great years... We might not have been conference champs in everything but we learned life's lessons together... I am proud to say I was a teammate and a friend...

God Bless You Dave!!! "Shoot for Divinity"

I grew up the street from Dave growing up. One of my fondest memories is the night we were ringing door bells and were surprised when the intended "mark" surprised us. He was hiding in the bushes and scared the crap out of us.
At that point it was every man for themselves. Dave was the unfortunate one that got caught when he dove over the bushes and had the wind knocked out of him.
We laughed about that night for years.

My thoughts and prayers are with Dave and his entire family

I work at Gluek's, where Dave was a Wednesday night regular for The Root City Band. He was such an awesome person. Generous, polite, fun. Always loved that he would dance even if no one else was on the floor. I'll miss you, Dave.

Dave was a warm, wonderful man with a great sense of humor. Truly, a friend to all. While I never met his family, Dave spoke about them often, always with great affection, so I know how important they were to him. That Dave will be missed is an understatement. My heart goes out to the Batten family during this sad and sudden time.

I knew Dave growing up in Hampton, IA and always looked up to him as many of us did who were younger than he was. His joyfulness, love of basketball, and his basketball skills were greatly appreciated and admired - but most of all the warmth towards others that he always generated. Its with deep sorrow that I learned of his death today.
