Dear Lynn,
We are so sorry for you loss. Dave's friendship meant a lot to us. The exceptional work he did on our Bulldog van to the Gilmore truck was second to none. We miss his friendship and great sense of humor. The hours he spent doing artwork on the van and the Gilmore truck were some of the most enjoyable times we ever had in the garage. He will be missed.

"Dave is the only artist that I have collected as many of his drawings(from magazines or whatever) I could get, dating back to the early days of Truckin' magazine in the 70s. He inspired me more than any other artist. Our industry has truly lost a tallented and gifted person. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I'm sure all Street Rodder and Custom Rodder magazine readers will miss his fantastic cartoons, I know I will. RIP Dave and thanks for all the time you put into your art, it made a difference in my life. Bob Bond - Editor/Publisher AutoArt Magazine."

Lynn I am so sorry for your loss. What do you say to someone who loses their best friend? I will always cherish the artwork that he did for me as a gift to my father. It still hangs proudly above his desk in his office. Or the memory of him bringing sweet little Rosie into the office to pick up Mom. You are in my heart & my prayers.

My memories go back to our teen years in Austin, MN. Dave was a beloved member of our "Thumpers Car Club" in Austin. He designed our club logo.
Many of us have ink drawings from Dave, and the back of some of our car club plaques carry his fantastic art work. Most of our cars sported his pin striping.
Dave also drew charcoal pictures on the interior walls of the club house. I remember his early trade mark... there was always a beer can somewhere in his pictures.
Our Thumper brother will never be forgotten by the club members. Dave we love you and miss you. Surely the angels will be adorned with some pin striping in the future.
Dear God please take good care of our dear "Brother". Mahlon Krueger (Thumper)

Dave set the bar high for anyone drawing cars with a style all his own and copied by many. I am so proud to have known him, even though I haven't seen him since the '60s. I have two of his pieces on display in my shop. May he rest in peace and know he made a difference in the car hobby.

Dear Dave - Friend since Minneapolis School of Art days. Great talent and eager to feature others more than himself. Drew line drawings of others' fine hot rods and other automotive showpieces in a rather cartoon-like style while writing side comments to humor readers of hot rod type magazines everywhere. Because of John Salisbury, another old friend, we were able to have a nice lunch together last year as we reminisced about old times. I will treasure many memories of Dave and pray for the comfort of Marilyn and Lynn.

His work and art will be timeless. I am always amazed how he was able to put together the drawings that will live on. His drawing for the first Nationals is still considered the holy grail. Everyone in street rodding in Canada knows of him and his work. Our condolences to his family.

Dave laid out and pinstriped the flames on my black 40 Ford twice--the second time due to an accident. It was really interesting to watch him work and to talk with him. I'm thankful to have a couple other pieces of his work. He will be greatly missed by the car world.
