David Morris Blum

Blum - David Morris 88, beloved husband of the late Ann-Ruth, father and tennis player passed away in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on February 13, 2023. David was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in West Orange, New Jersey, graduating from Rutgers University, where he was a member of the lacrosse team (where, in one of his claims to fame, he played against Jim Brown of Syracuse Universityâ€"the "greatest lacrosse player of all time", according to David). David spent time in counterintelligence in the US Army in Germany in the 1950s, having graduated from the Army foreign languages school. At his peak, David was fluent in five languages, including Portuguese and Russian (in his 80s,

David still remembered how to say "Don't kick the ball near the barbed wire embarkment" in Russian). David was also a serious tennis player who played well into his 70s and, while living on Long Island, was religious about attending the first day of the US Open. He was also a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and, living vicariously through his son, the Duke Blue Devils. David is survived by his son, Jonathan; his daughter-in-law, Erica; and his step-grandson, Ethan. David's charm, wit and intellect will be sorely missed.
