To those that loved him,
Another anniversary of his loss. Another Veteran's Day of memories. He remains in our thoughts and our hearts.
A great man and a great leader of men. His devotion to his command and those who served under him are memories that remain.
Keep him in your hearts and he will live forever.
I salute you Captain.

Dear Al, Diane and Jennifer,
Veterans' Day has come and gone, but know that you and your son/brother, David, were on my mind, and in my prayers. David gave the ultimate sacrifice dying for our freedom. But you too gave the ultimate sacrifice of your only beloved son and brother. Thank you for your continuing sacrifice. May David's memory be eternal!

To the family,
As I opened face book I seen CPT. David Boris and was overwhelmed by emotions as I stared at his picture. It was an honor to be his Platoon Sergeant; he was a great leader on and off duty. As a person I always thought of him as a friend and looked forward to severing with him in the future. CPT Boris might have left this life but I promise he will never be forgotten.
Hey Sir, one day we will be on tanks again, you’ll lead and I will follow…

Today as the flowers of spring are beginning to fade and as summer is beginning to send its warmth upon the earth, Captain Boris is remembered. He, and men like him, will not be forgotten. As the mountains that rise upon the earth remain, so will his memory forever be in the minds of those that knew him. He died in service to others. His spirit guides those who were left behind. Captain Boris goes forward for he will forever be in our hearts. Thanks David. We love you.

LT, Yesterday was a long day...not that every day doesn't have some thoughts of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in them. I hope the family has gone through the worst of the grieving process, it seems that is something that will never be "over" though. Your memory will stay on the high ground...forever. We will never forget. R.I.P. Sir!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the Boris Family,
I wish to add my thoughts and condolences to those noted by Dion Atchison's mother, Diane Atchison Sherwood in the initial entry of this guestbook.
I remember you son from his freshman year at West Point when I would visit Dion Atchison. He was polite, cordial, solid and a good roommate for Dion.
It is so difficult to understand and accept this tragedy...it brings back the dread and fear that parents feel when their son or daughter goes to combat.
It also reminds me of the stellar courage and maturity that the cadets then soldiers show. It can deeply respected, if not fully understood.
I deeply wish I could offer more solace in this time of duress.

Dear Boris family, As a West Point parent Class of 1999, I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss. David roomed with my son his freshman year at West Point (Dion Atchison). You shared your home with my son at a time when I couldn't be with him. Our family grieves with you. Ironically, my dining room table is full of West Point photos that I am sorting through. I'm sure David is among them. The fresh faces of strong men and women, full of hope and driven to serve, marching in crisp uniforms and studying to be the best our country has to offer. Friendships formed at West Point last a lifetime, and David's legacy will live forever. You must be so proud of David's years of service. He is a Hero who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe and he will always be remembered. God Bless you.

To Buddy and Diane and all of David’s family; I’ve just heard the devastating news of your loss. I can’t even imagine what you are going through.
The healing process will be long and painful, I know; let your precious memories of David and the memories from others help you gradually mend.
I hadn’t seen him since he was a toddler so I have had to put together an image of the man he turned out to be. After reading the messages in the guest book, it’s obvious that he was a very special person and touched many hearts and souls in his short lifetime. These hearts and souls are all the better for the experience and it’s inevitable that tributes to David’s character, decency and integrity will be passed on through all of them. This is one of the ways that we are never truly gone; he will live forever.
Here in my new hometown’s airport there is a home-away-from-home area that has been set aside for military that are passing through and for family and friends to wait. I’ve made it a habit to greet any I meet and thank them sincerely for what they are giving of themselves. At my age I’m usually in tears by this time especially when they tell me that they felt honored to serve.
You raised a hero; he made the greatest sacrifice a man can make for his country and freedom. Your pride must know no limits.
Now strive to raise your head so that when he looks down on you, he will be equally proud of your strength and courage.
Bless you all.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Jaime, the Boris's and the Pavao's,
I hope that you can take comfort in reading the fond words left in the guestbook by both people who knew Dave and also by families from across the country who have gone through what you are currently going through.
I truly believe that Dave left a lasting impression on everyone he came in contact with.
I know words do little to ease your pain at this time, but I hope you can take a little comfort in that so many people are grieving with you.
God Bless you Dave and may God bless Dave's family and friends and lead them through the days that lie ahead.
God Bless you all.

To the Family of Cpt. David Boris:
My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you. I truly feel the utmost sympathy for your loss. My heart is so sadden.
I began my early years in Minersville as a graduate of St. Stanislaus Grade School. Today I am a Retired Lieutenant Colonel, Army Nurse. I understand David's commitment and dedication. It's a common bond we military soldiers share.
There is some spirit so strong that gave David the courage to do all the great things he did. Find comfort in knowing that he lived his life driven by his determination and his beliefs. The world will be a better and safer place because of his military commitment. He is a true Hero!
May God Bless You and Comfort You!
Sincerely,
Marilyn (Michelcavage) Haffey,
Retired, LTC

Let us not grieve the passing of David's life but let us all celebrate for having known the hero that he is and that we all may be better people for having known him in the short life he gave to his loved ones and his country. He gave his life fighting for the freedom we all enjoy, even after he is gone. May God bless us all and let us know that David is resting in the arms of his Lord.

Know that your husband did this country a great service. He is gone from this Earth but will always remain in the hearts and memories of those who loved him and whose lives he touched. Jaime, I can not begin to express my sympathy for your loss. Dave was a honorable man, always willing to help anyone with anything. He was deep in his convictions and was always a leader. He died protecting all of us, but mostly trying to fight to protect the next generation. He will always be with you, you may not realize it right now, but someday when your least expecting it you'll feel him all around you. May God give you strength in the days ahead to help you get through. Your strong, Jaime that's why Dave loves you. He will be missed.

The West Point Cadet Prayer:
"O God, our Father, Thou Searcher of human hearts, help us draw near to Thee in sincerity and truth. May our religion be filled with gladness and may our worship of Thee be natural.
Strengthen and increase our admiration for honest dealing and clean thinking, and suffer not our hatred of hypocrisy and pretense ever to diminish. Encourage us in our endeavor to live above the common level of life. Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole can be won. Endow us with courage that is born of loyalty to all that is noble and worthy, that scorns to compromise with vice and injustice and knows no fear when truth and right are in jeopardy. Guard us against flippancy and irreverence in the sacred things of life. Grant us new ties of friendship and new opportunities of service. Kindle our hearts in fellowship with those of a cheerful countenance, and soften our hearts with sympathy for those who sorrow and suffer. Help us to maintain the honor of the Corps untarnished and unsullied, and to show forth in our lives the ideals of West Point in doing our duty to Thee and to our Country. All of which we ask in the name of the Great Friend and Master of all.
Amen
From one West Point family to another, we will include Capt. Boris' name with the other fallen USMA graduates we pray for, today and for all time when we, like they once did, say the above prayer.
Thank you for being the embodiment of the ideal: DUTY - HONOR - COUNTRY

I sat by Dave in homeroom thoughout high school. He was good-natured and considerate person. He used to help me with homework or classes I was having trouble with. He was always willing to help whenever I asked. I am truly sorry for your loss. The world needs more people like him. Dear Diane, Al and Jenn,
I remember when you lived a few houses down from my Grandmother and Aunt Rosalie Novack. Jenn, David, myself and my brother bill all used to play in the back yard or used to go to the pool or playground together. Then David went to Pottsville like myself and Bill. He was a great guy. I will keep you all in my prayers. God Bless You All.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4
What a wonderful thought...
May God bless Capt David Boris, God bless you and your family and God bless America!
