David J. Boruta, 53, of Gouldsboro, died Thursday. He is survived by his wife, Linda.

A lifelong resident of Gouldsboro, son of Antoinette Lozenski Boruta, Gouldsboro, and the late John Boruta, he was a member of St. Rita's Church in Gouldsboro. He was the proud owner and operator of two businesses for over 32 years, Boruta's Store and Boruta's Contractors. He loved his work, his town, and especially his family. David was the rock of his family, and his business, Boruta's store was the center of Gouldsboro community.

David also had a passion for classic cars and all things Harley-Davidson. He was looking forward to his upcoming annual trip with his friends to Octoberfest Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Fla. Dave enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on their trips to Walt Disney World, and he doted on his young granddaughter.

David served more than 10 years as township supervisor for Lehigh Twp., where he proudly represented and supported his friends, neighbors and the community of Gouldsboro. He was a member of the Gouldsboro American Legion Post 274 and a supporter of our troops and veterans. He never missed Gouldsboro's Memorial Day Parade, often volunteering to drive a celebrated veteran in the parade in his Camaro and frequently participating in benefit rides on his Harley.

David quietly helped his neighbors whenever they were in need, plowing their driveways, helping fix their cars, whatever their need, he was there for everyone, never asking for anything in return.

Also surviving are a son, Jason and his wife, Danielle, Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Brandi, her husband, Trevor and their daughter, Adeline, Elkins Park, Pa.; brother, Jeffrey Boruta and his wife, Lori, Gouldsboro; sisters, Karen Boruta Nitch and her husband, Ron, Gouldsboro; Sharon Lenzer and her husband, William, Gouldsboro; Lisa Barrett and her husband, Michael, Scranton; many nieces and nephews, Ashly, Cory, Dana, Kylie, Jonathan, Jenna and Susan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Rita's Church, 512 Main St., Gouldsboro. Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church for Mass. Cremation to take place in the Strauch Cremation Center and Crematory, Lehigh Twp.

The viewing will be Monday, 5 to 8 p.m., at the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 3 First St., Spring Brook Twp. To leave an online condolence, visit the funeral home's website.

There are no words to fully express my sadness and surprise at learning of Dave's passing, just as no words can fully express the type of man Dave was.

All who knew him were made richer by knowing him, and he made our little corner of the world so much better by being in it with us.

He was proud of Gouldsboro and his businesses and his wonderful family. And I'm proud I shook his hand and made him laugh a few times.

A lot of what makes Gouldsboro and small towns great can be summed up in two words: "Dave Boruta".

We are so sorry for your loss. Dave has been a friend for decades, we have known him since he was a child. He always had a smile for everyone, was always cheerful and giving. He brightened the day of everyone he met. He was an exemplary human being, truly one of a kind, an awesome individual. He was a friend to all and we adored him for it. Dave was a teddy bear, a Guardian Angel walking on earth, his job to cheer and take care of everyone else. Whenever our families needed him, he was always there. He could be counted on. He was conscientious, responsible, dependable, hardworking, honest, loyal, generous, giving, loving. As both sets of our parents aged, he took them under his wings, looking out for and helping them, always giving, never asking. We are sickened that he is now gone. He was a fixture in our lives and we thought of him often. He will be sorely missed. No one can match Dave's generosity, his cheerfulness, his humanity. His is a loss that will remain forever. He will be forever held in our hearts in loving memories frozen in time. He will be always in our prayers. God be with you, David. God must need you in Heaven more than all of us need you on Earth. We will meet again.

We have known Dave Boruta since he took over the foundering grocery store in Gouldsboro and together with his family turned it into a thriving business that serves the many needs of our community. The store has been our Go To place and we were there a dozen times a week. Not only were the hoagies and cold cuts delicious and fresh, but the store saved us countless hours and gallons of gas because whatever we ran out of, Boruta's could be counted on to have it. And almost always our favorite brand.

Dave also served as the Town Crier, having the latest information on practically everything. In a power outage, Dave would know the closest town with power and how the roads were between here and wherever. If something broke, Dave would know the best person to fix it.

Dave successfully completed a number of construction projects for us. He was an expert at handling heavy construction machinery like the big back hoe. He made efficient use of young assistants in expediting this work but did not hesitate to get down in the pit with a shovel himself if that would speed up the job. Because of his many commitments he was not easy to tie down with respect to schedules, but if you or your neighbors had an emergency, no matter how minor, he was suddenly right there. He worked hard, was conscientious, thorough, and scrupulously honest and always had a smile on his face.

Dave Boruta was a valuable resource for the Gouldsboro community and we are proud to have known him. He will be sorely missed.
