David Brake Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2024.
David Michael Brake, age 44, died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 25, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born February 23, 1980 in Orange, Texas to Gene Brake and Dixie Gracia. He was a 1998 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas.

David was preceded in death by his grandfather Edwin Brake, grandmother Elizabeth Brake, and uncles Edwin James Brake, William Bennett "Butch" Brake and aunt Mariann Brake. He is survived by his daughters Lily Brake and Gabriela Garcia of San Antonio, his father Gene Brake and husband Greg Stripes of Spokane, WA, mother Dixie Gracia and husband Bob Gracia of New Braunfels, TX, sister Jennifer Yohe and her husband Jeff Kleinman of Niederwald, Tx, Joseph Yohe and his partner Julie Corbell of San Antonio, TX. Cousins Aimee Brake De La Rosa and husband David De La Rosa of San Antonio, Texas, Deborah Brake Truitt and husband Robert Truitt of Splendora, TX, Karen Brake Powell and husband Chris Powell of Midlothian, TX, Richard Brake and wife Kim Brake of Cypress, TX, Austin Roerich and girlfriend Alyssa Torrez of San Antonio, Madison Roerich and fiance Raul Morales of Lytle, TX and Luizan Brake de La Rosa of San Antonio.

Nieces Caroline Wetz and fiance Taylor Dartez, Ryleigh Yohe and Layonie Yohe of San Antonio, nephew Lamech Valdez of San Antonio and numerous extended family members.

David was a well-loved bartender in San Antonio who always had a quick smile and joke to tell to brighten anyone's day. So well loved in fact, that he captured The Current's Best Bartender in San Antonio in 2011. He loved live music and often attended concerts by his favorite bands including Ween, Reverend Horton Heat and the Aquabats, among many others. He loved Mexican food, ska, video games, DnD and comic books. He was a gifted artist and loved to travel, but most of all he was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He will be missed terribly.

A somber church service just wouldn't do, so his family and friends will gather for a lively celebration of life on Sunday, August 4 and Mexican food will most definitely be served. He will be interred with 5 generations of his family in Pearsall, TX in a private family gathering.

You truly were a beacon for all of us broken people. You always offered a laugh and the best hugs. We hope you have found the peace you were always chasing. We have so many beautiful memories of our time with you. We will hold them close to our hearts and never ever forget the love and laughs you gave us. We will miss you always Super Dave

Dave was a bright light in a dark tunnel. Just one of those humans that you felt privileged to know and call a friend. I will miss you my friend and just know my world is a duller place without you in it. Sending love to his family

You will be missed. You were so kind and sweet to me. But had terrible dance moves. Miss you and just so so sorry I never got to tell you in person, how great you were. R.I.P. hun

Since the day I met you, you always had me smiling. Always with a quick joke. I will miss going to shows with you and you rolling your eyes at me when I played a Morrissey/Smiths song. I'll miss talking about super heros and your dream to write your own comic. You will always be Super Dave to me. Rest easy my friend.

The moment we were introduced a little light clicked on behind both our happy little eyes. "Is this the one" we thought. "Oh yesssss it is!"

I'll miss you so much.
