A year has passed and no words can say how sad and empty we feel today. The angels came for you David, much sooner than planned and we know you are watching over us all. We will cherish the moments and rimes that we shared with you A thousand words or tears won't bring you back. You are an angel in heaven now and we know when it's our time, we will all be together. We will smile and remember how lucky we were to be a part of your life. You are dearly missed and we love you David. Be at peace. Merle, Val and our family.

Dave,Your friends in the aviation community of Burkeville on Sea Island have expresssed to me their sincere and heartfelt loss in your tragic and untimely departure.I wish to offer condolences to my neighbour Shirley, her daughter Kirsten and grandchildren as well as the Brolin family. It was at a happier time at one of Shirley and Karl's garden parties that I first met you and your lovely family.Your dad John and I talked of Christina Lake summers and mutual friends from Canadian Airlines. Shortly afterwards, one night I was mistified as to why our back bedroom was illuminated with the room light switched off. I pulled back the drapes and noticed that night had turned to day, between my house and Shirley's place....I could hear a faint buzz above me and smiled to myself...Ahhh there is Dave,up above, almost silent, saluting his mother-in- law with the EC120 "Night-Sun" million candlepower light, on his way back from one of those missions that the ATC man mentioned in an earlier post. On another occaision while I was at Pitt Meadows airport with my Cessna 172 and a friend having lunch, you levitated in with an RCMP ship...grabbed a sandwich and was airborne again before our order came...we had a brief chat....you always looked smart, and businesslike, in your RCMP flight suit. Likewise at the CBAA gatherings after work at YVR, I frequently saw you as we checked out the latest Business jets, and caught up on the latest aviation happenings over dinner and a beer.I recall you said you would like to fly my Cessna, so I said I would drop off the keys and you said..."wait a minute I need a check out"...I regret we will never get to do that. I also have a yearning to learn how to fly a helicopter and saught your mentorship.
Dave, as we say goodby, I want your family and friends to know that your fellow aviators, co-workers and AMEs will be honouring you by standing for a one minute silence at the commencement of our Pacific AME Assn AGM at BCIT on Friday 27th January. With the greatest respect. Peter Sleeman Retrd A.C. pilot/AME and neighbour.Richmond B.C.

Dave, I've waited this long to post something - anything. I can't find words that could ever justly describe everything that is in my heart. You never really knew how important you were. You plucked me out of my small town and moved me to "the big city". I will always be grateful for that! I have so many good memories and so much sadness. You will be missed forever.

Such a tragic loss for our family. I don't know of another family that has such a tight group of cousins. We are all like brothers and sisters. David‘s passing has left an eternal void in our circle.
It didn't matter where I was or who I was with—when the RCMP chopper flew over (that is very often in Surrey) I would always point to the sky and say “That's my Cousin”. If there was nobody around, I would wave my arms frantically in the air. He saw me a couple of times.
I am so proud of what he did in his life. We should all wish to have accomplished as much. He was an all-around great guy, friend and Dad that will be sorely missed by us all.

My deepest sympathies to the Brolin family. I have fond memories of living in Cloverdale and growing up with the tight knit group of friends and fellow students that shared the youthful experiences that defined us. Like so many others, I feel a sense of emptiness and profound loss at Dave's passing. A link in the chain that bound us all together, even through the passing of years, is missing, but will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace my friend.

Just left with a profound sense of loss...kind of a heaviness. Regrets for lost opportunities of connection.
This wasn't supposed to happen...even as the years widen between times of re-connection those times always had a quality and a depth to them. Life and family commitments come to play but future plans always included more re-connection times.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
Dave, I appreciated your friendship, your self-confidence, your leadership, and your person. I was always proud of who you became.
John, Maxine, Greg, Kirsten, Connor & Kennedy; I am so very sorry for you all to have to experience the loss of Dave. He touched a lot of people. He was a good and honest man. That is a reflection from where he comes.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Brolin family, friends and colleagues.
I have fond memories of Dave beginning in Cloverdale, where his zest for life and compassion towards others was evident at an early age.
Over the years, our paths have crossed and it was always a pleasure to catch up and hear about family/work and all else that hit the radar. Dave knew that I was very proud of his vast professional accomplishments to enhance global safety and security. However, Dave always remained humble and praised others!. Dave defined class. Please RIP.
John and Maxine, you raised a wonderful son whose legacy will live on in the many hearts he has touched.

Dear Kirsten,
I am so sorry for your loss. It seems like yesterday that I walked into the Mallard lounge at the Chateau and saw you and David at the bar enjoying a few drinks.
A few weeks later, David had succeeded with the ultimate favor and he made arrangements for the RCMP helicopter to visit the BC firefighter's Burn Camp for young burn survivors. I cannot describe the amazing impact that visit had on the campers. That helicopter visit easily trumped the visit from a player from the Vancouver Canucks.
On behalf of those Burn Campers, Thank you David Brolin.

Still feels impossible that this is real and happened to one of the best families I've ever known. I grew up across the street from the Brolins and have many great memories including David teaching me to barefoot waterski. This tragedy will will forever leave a hole that will never be filled in the Brolin family and I am deeply saddened for them.

I still remember being amazed by your bare-foot water skiing stories when we were both at Helijet. It is very unfair how life plays out sometimes and your leaving us now is one of those times. Hopefully the angels will allow you to still play bare-foot across the clouds! You will be missed by all who knew you.

With heavy hearts we send our deepest sympathies to Maxine & John, Greg & family and Kirsten & family on the untimely death of your beloved David.
We will always cherish our fun times spent together at Christina Lake. Memories of Dave include him water skiing on his bare feet, and a few wipeouts as well. But being the good sport he was, he just did it again until he had mastered it.
Everything Dave did, he did with love and passion, like his job of heli piloting.
We are so saddened by Dave's sudden passing. May your knowledge that we care, help ease your pain and bring you some comfort at this most difficult time

All of us at YVR are shocked and saddened by the news of Dave's death last Tuesday. While I never actually met him, we spent countless hours working the night skies together during his patrols around town, keeping us safe. He was a good guy, and a good pilot - my condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers of RCMP Air Division - YVR.

Dear Kirsten, Connor, Kennedy, John and Maxine and family.
We learned to know Dave as a good friend of our son Allan during their school years when we lived in Clayton Hill. He impressed us as a young person with his determination and his mature character even as a teenager. Allan's three brothers, Dag, Erik and Paul, also have good memories of Dave. Later on we were able to see Dave and Kirsten in Whistler, and could witness the growth of their young family.
We are profoundly sorry to hear of Dave's passing, and extend our most deepfelt condolences to you all. We believe Dave came from a good strong family background, and trust this will help in getting you all through such a difficult time. Our thoughts are with you all at this time.
With love and concern

David,
You will be missed ... you loved well and therefore, you were well loved. You were my big cousin - the same big cousin that I "almost" beat at Donkey Kong when you lived with us in the summer of 1984 - the same big cousin that tried to teach me to barefoot waterski off the boom of the boat ... how hopeless was I at that? The same big cousin who joined my friends and I on a stagette in Whistler (an all GIRL stagette) where we couldn't get rid of you ALL NIGHT! The same big cousin who had a heart of gold and though you weren't perfect, my memories of you are. I feel fortunate to have known you and thank-you for being such a great "big cuz".

I had the privilege of being Connor's Soccer Coach when we lived in South Surrey. Dave was such a humble guy. It was only when I decided to join the Canadian Army as a Chaplain did Dave open up to me about his Army Service. He was a man that did not promote himself before others - a true hero. He and Kirsten were the kind of parents a coached loved - they were easy going and gracious. I salute you Dave - and may God's peace be upon your family.
