David Franklyn Byers

Byers, David Franklyn 7/21/1985 - 4/29/2015 Age 29, of Denver Colorado, died April 29, 2015 unexpectedly. He was born July 21, 1985 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Woodrow Byers and Elizabeth Pechumer. He attended Forest Hills Central High School where he played hockey and became a local hockey coach where he influenced many young hockey players. David was an avid hunter, snowboarder, golfer, and enjoyed many other sports. Hockey was his first love. After moving to Denver he continued his hockey coaching and coached at a variety of levels. His coaching successes included having one of his teams qualify for the prestigious International Silver Sticks tournament. His greatest joy in life was his daughter Greighlyn. David is survived by his daughter Greighlyn Byers and Greighlyn's mother, Aphton Griffey of Denver Colorado, his parents Woodrow (Dee) Byers of Lowell, Michigan and Elizabeth Pechumer (Kenneth) of Shelbyville, Michigan, his sister Rebekah (Ryan) Condon of West Branch, Michigan, and his brother Aaron Byers of Denver Colorado. He also leaves Corinne Cozzaglio, Kelly and Andrew Grignon, Anthony (Michelle) Cozzaglio, and Kevin Pechumer. He is also survived by grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by Grandfather Robert Scharfschwerdt and Uncle Nathan Scharfschwerdt. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Visiting hours will Wednesday from 2-4pm. The funeral service will held on Thursday at 2pm at the funeral home. A reception will be held at Cascade Christian Church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the David Byers Memorial Fund benefitting his daughter Greighlyn . Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
