To Marianne, Regan and Taylor--You have our prayers and condolences in your loss. I wish I would have had the opportunity to know David better through the years, other than the occasional Christmas card. I feel that we could have been good friends, with our common love for music, sailing and single-malt scotch. May God continue to be your strength and hope during this season ahead for you. Much love, cousin Bill (Billy) and Norma Jean

Sorry to see David go, even more sorry we never connected in later years. Myself, Jerry Quinlan, Tommy Barrett, and David were a tight group as young boys growing up in Norfolk - from playing at one another's houses to being altar boys at the Immaculate Conception. It was a time of innocence, and David helped build my character for the better in those early days. His brother Philip and I competed against one another for years when he was a member of the Norfolkians, and I truly enjoyed swimming with his mother at the "Y". As a wonderful husband and father, my deepest condolences to the family - he was the best.

David and I first connected on Facebook in 2011 through a mutual clan friend, Malcolm Buchanan of Australia. David had invited me numerous times to the New Hampshire Highland Games and to provide some Great Highland Bagpiping for the clan. In 2016 I went on a road trip from north of Toronto On. to the majestic mountains of Lincoln NH where I first met David and his lovely family.

I was greeted with a warm Byrne family welcome and assisted David with leading the Clan Buchanan down the esplanade of Loon Mountain Resort, acknowledging the 1000 years of Buchanan's. In 2019 we reunited once again at the New Hampshire Highland Games for the meeting of the new Clan Chief, The Buchanan and his family. In 2022 the clan gathered once again for the annual AGM at the Wisconsin Highland Games where David and I collaborated once more. More recently in 2023 I had the priviledge of meeting for a final time with David at the San Antonio Highland Games and AGM .

David's strong and caring leadership over the CBSI membership will be missed but not forgotten. As Regional director for Region 14, Canada, and piper to The Buchanan, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to David's family, Marianne, Regan and Taylor. Until we meet again, rest easy my friend.

I met David when I first started attending the Highland Games in Maine and then, subsequently, New Hampshire. Being a proud Buchanan, even before regularly attending the gatherings, I felt and took in his pure energy toward advancing Buchanan to the world and later became a member of CBSI and subsequently, the Regent for the State of Maine. I always looked forward to seeing him and talking with him and just sharing life for one weekend every year. I got to celebrate 1000 years a Clan with him and he was the one to personally introduce me to our new Chief. I will greatly miss finding him standing sentry at the Buchanan tent standing proud and tall, staff in hand, and ready to talk about anything and everything Buchanan. I will greatly miss watching him stand as Master At Arms, guiding the rest of the Clans in the formal gathering and role call. Most importantly, as President of Clan Buchanan Society International, he led the Buchanans of the Diaspora to where we are today and while we must carry on without him in person, I will most certainly carry his memory with me and will remember him in Flowers Of The Forest.

God bless the rest of the family, many of whom I had the privilege of meeting at the Games; most heartfelt condolences to Marianne and the girls.

To Marianne and family, please accept our deepest condolences. David was our friend, a friendship born of a mutual desire to improve the Region 16 education facilities-the driving force behind The Concerned Parents Association. After leaving Prospect in 1995 for Tennessee, David took an even more active role in the CPA after Al gave up his President role. We followed his exploits via updates from Michael and Cathy McInerney, and were very excited when Woodland High School opened-his crowning achievement and gift to Region 16. He is in a better place-if there are schools in Heaven, he will make them better somehow!
Fondly,
