When Dave had cancer, he used to call the night document processors at Littler and talk to us when he couldn't sleep, and we really became close at that time. I have always thought the world of David and knkow that he had a high standard for himself and those around him, and always did the best he could. We were lucky to know him and sorely miss him.

Dave was a true friend of mine in law school. The qualities of loyalty, sincerity, and warmth establish a true friend. Dave displayed those attributes in our friendship, throwing in great humor and charm. True friends come around only rarely in life, cherish that friendship as long as you can. I can only regret valuable time lost with Dave, as we spoke and saw each other sporadically since law school. Brennan, remember your Dad having wonderful qualities displayed on these pages.
My sincere sympathy to his family.

Please accept my deepest sympathies and condolences to Dave's entire family in both California and Pittsburgh. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I was completely shocked and very saddened to hear of his passing. I was a classmate of Dave's and spent many mornings driving to high school with him in '82 and '83. He was like a big brother and was a neighbor to a mutual friend of ours, Gina Crawford (Fiore). I'm so sorry that I missed him at our 20 year reunion, but I have a lot of wonderful memories and will always remember his smile, good looks and quick wit.

To Dave's family you have my deepest sympathy. I found out Easter morning of Dave's passing from a friend of ours email.
I received several emails from Dave in the past month concerning his fund raising efforts to fight cancer. He was looking forward to being a guest of a radio station that was sponsering the event.
I will remember his extremely sharp wit and the smile on his face like he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
I will miss my friend.

As one of the labor-employment law partners at David's new law firm of Morgan Lewis & Bockius, words cannot express how sad and devastated we are by the news. Everyone who met David liked him, and knew he was a superb labor lawyer. We will miss him very much.

To Dave's family:
Dave was a loyal friend to me for at least 25 years. I enjoyed so many laughs with him throughout high school and college, and was still communicating with him through this past weekend. It breaks my heart to see his email notes and know that I can't respond anymore. I still have notes that he sent me 20 years ago in my old treasure box. He was there for me so often, including the time that I flipped over the handlebars of a motorcycle and landed in his back yard! He was protective of me in a loving way, and I will always miss him. I thank God that I had the chance to talk with him at length and in person at our 20 year high school reunion. He hugged me and kissed me tenderly on the forehead in such a loving and caring way. I will always treasure my friendship and memories of wonderful times with Dave. He was a smart, funny, loyal, caring person that I feel so blessed to have known. I pray that he is comforted in the peace and warmth of God's loving hands. I pray that in time his family and son can find peace and comfort in good memories.

Dear Brennan:
I first met you when your Dad use to bring you to the office in San Francisco as a toddler. I remember when I both see you (wearing baseball caps), you both were always enroute to fun activites. He would say "...oh we always have this father and son thing here there..." I would reply "here, there and everywhere" somewhere for a game or outing. He was always proud of you. You were the love of his life. Do cherish the happy and loving times you shared with your Dad. Your Dad was one of the most brillant attorneys at that great law firm, where we both worked. I first met him when he interviewed in 1989, he was still a law school student. As an Associate and later as a Shareholder, he was a caring sensitive and witty guy (handsome, too). He was very intelligent and at the same time he had a simple heart and purity that was child-like.
I pray that you always remember David, your Dad, with love, kindness, generosity & understanding.
My entire family including my Mom and my siblings met him in few occasions. He joked with them a lot. He was wonderful! His last e-mail, which I kept, was he was going to call me to chat.
I, too, lost my Dad at an early age. I know that your Dad's spirit and energy will envelope you with protection and care through the years.
God bless your Dad and may his soul rest in peace.
My family's love and prayers to your family,
Mariza Farrales and Family

So many memories of David. He was a little younger than my stepsons. When I came to Littler as assistant to the former Managing Shareholder, Mr. Thesing and I shared a small office on the SF Peninsula, from which he ran the firm. David was the outstanding associate he most turned to in his labor law practice. David was the first San Francisco Littler attorney I met, at the SF 1994 holiday party jumble of anonymous faces. When he fought cancer, I sent him Thurber cartoons and other jokes, little stories every week for several months. Later when he returned to work and I was moved to SF, I never went to his floor here without at least waving at David -- until he left the firm. His farewell party here was bitter-sweet because we knew what a hole he would leave in the firm. This week that hole grew much larger. I send my prayers to David's family.

Of all the friends our kids had, Dave was, by far, my favorite. He was always polite and thoughtful - in his own "edgy" style. Occasionally, out of the blue, I would get a phone call from him asking how I was doing - including a few years ago when he heard that I had had surgery. Add Bob and me to the list of people who loved Dave, and will miss him.

I first met David when I was an adjunct professor at Pitt Law School and he was a student. David was bright, inquisitive and determined in law school, and there was no doubt that he would be a successful labor law attorney. My only regret was that I was not successful in recruiting him for my firm in Pittsburgh but, as luck would have it, he helped recruit me many years later to Littler Mendelson. He was a fine colleague, and more importantly, a decent and caring person. He will be missed.
