Falmouth - David L. Cary, 92, of Falmouth, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at Falmouth Hospital on November 1, 2024. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, David lived a life rich in family, service, and adventure. Beloved husband of Catherine (Gilbane) Cary, David was the son of the late Edgar and Beatrice Cary.

Born and raised in Brockton, David graduated from Brockton High School before serving his country in combat in the Korean War. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a commercial real estate appraiser in Boston. He was a member of the Counselors of Real Estate, as well as the Appraisal Institute, for which he served in many leadership roles both regionally and nationally. Throughout his long and distinguished career, David was well respected, and his consultation was often sought and highly valued.

A passionate skier, David loved spending time on the slopes, particularly Cranmore Mountain in North Conway, NH, where he met his cherished wife, Catherine, and where they spent many happy years sharing their love of the sport with their children and grandchildren. As his children grew, he enjoyed and savored taking his children on ski trips to Switzerland and Austria, which he did into his mid-70's. His love of sports extended to sailing and golf. He was a long-time member of Thorney Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Woods Hole Golf Club in Falmouth, and Naples Lakes Country Club in Naples, Florida.

David had the gift of developing close friendships from every facet of his life, including those from his youth in Brockton, his career, the ski slopes, the golf course, and his years in Falmouth. He treasured these enduring relationships and he will be sorely missed by many.

An avid reader, David built a collection of books that he enjoyed sharing with friends and family. He was also an accomplished, self-taught woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his skill and attention to detail. David also was an enthusiastic collector of antique cars. He loved jumping in his car and taking long, scenic road trips. In his later years, he particularly looked forward to making the trip to Naples with his grandson, Colin.

Above all, David cherished spending time with his family. His favorite moments were those spent at home on Cape Cod with his children and grandchildren over steamers and lobsters, creating memories filled with laughter and life lessons from the "school of hard knocks." His family was his greatest joy.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Catherine, and their three children: David Cary and wife Kate of Falmouth, Catherine Bannan and husband Kevin of Hingham, and William Cary and wife Lisa of North Easton. He will also be deeply missed by his eight grandchildren: Cary, Tommy, Colin, Marykate, Brendan, Patrick, Madison, and John, and his two great-grandchildren: Nora and Kit, as well as his many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 475 Main St., Falmouth, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main St., Falmouth, with burial to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Falmouth.
