Gone too soon but had a great life

I'm 85 years old. Around 2017, I was in a shoe store in Clearwater Florida with my feet hurting but I was short on cash for some wonderful sliver slippers. Mr Chernicky was waiting patiently to be served and then he suddenly offered to buy them for me. He insisted. I will never forget his act of generosity. He gave me his business card and I found it and wanted to reach out to him but I see he has passed on. Please accept my deepest condolences. He was an amazing human being. From my experience, Okies generally are special people. I'm back in Estonia now and thinking of him

I only read today about his Passing...

I met Dave only twice in my life for a few weeks in summer. Even he didn´t know me first when I came to Tulsa, his nephew asked him to host me which he immediately did! After a first getting to know, we warmed up! First thing he did was bringing me to a drug store and buying all kind of stuff for me `to be a real man´! He even showed me as a 20 years old how to shave properly!

I never forget how he gave me in the car 100$ and told me to give it to a bus from his hometown with Christian´s on board as a donation or the homeless at the gas station which he gave 20$ when he asked for one dollar! I will never forget these evenings at his lake house, when he was a true captain on his boat or even shot a snake that entered the house!

Dave truly enjoyed his life day and night, but was a hard worker and always followed his heart! I only met him another summer after this but his spirit joined me the next 15 years after!

I wished I could have met him again but it wasn´t so easy from over seas!

I am grateful I met him and I will make sure that his spirit of life is spread and never will be forgotten! Thank you Dave for letting me into your life, being generous for me and showing me how to shave like a true man! I was a random 20 years old but Dave, you cared about me!

You are always in my heart!

There will never be another David Chernicky... true blue, a man who would just see if “anyone was listening.” His actions proved himself in life. I learned a lot from him, and he’ll always be that person to me who was my teacher. Funny... crazy to most but the opposite to me, he was actually one of the most comfortable and peaceful person to be around! He made the best grilled cheese ever! With those sautéed jalapeños and pickles!! He taught me more than he will ever know.. about people... how to do laundry.. “Extra rinse!” etc...

Always genuine and never fed anyone bs... you always knew where you stood and that’s why he was a natural born leader. You would think he worked at a car wash.. never bragged, boasted and always made you feel like you were on the same level as him.

Money will never buy these personality traits he had. One of a kind for sure... He will always be missed and thought of...

True blue... a natural born leader... genuine, giving and so intelligent, very misunderstood... so funny... he would always see if you were “just listening” he adapted to every type of environment... never boasted or bragged snd you would think he was so average.. David always made you feel comfortable, like you were on the same page as him. Never let his worth get in the way of what others thought about themselves. If you were to meet him, you would think he worked at a car wash;) There will never be another David Chernicky... Money will never buy all the qualities he had. Ever.

Intelligent. Daring. Funny. Insightful. Hard worker. Visionary. This world has lost a shining light. David’s quirky personality and his infectious smile were only outshined by his generosity. I’m blessed to have been able to work with him and to know him as a friend. David, I hope you found what your heart was searching for. Prayers for the family and friends left behind who will miss him dearly. God bless.

“A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.”

Words you lived by. I could write another book of "Chernicky-isms". My memories of your generosity and shocking humor (your method of filtering others) are crisp and clear. You will remain in my heart's most grateful room. May I endeavor to be so giving in all aspects of life as you, my friend. So much love... Please visit often!

I've known david for about 14 years, a couple solid years. He was very generous and was always smiling. He always had a good time and was always laughing! I've been thinking about him lately and now I know why. A friend that introduced us when I worked for her at CYC just sent me this article. I'm saddened to hear this news. He left an impact on so many lifes. And ill forever be grateful for him. R.I.P David!

What a trail you blazed! When I started working for you twenty years ago I knew that I had grabbed hold of a comet's tail. You always wore a big grin and I came to learn that it matched the size of your heart. Thanks for teaching me so much. Thanks for improving the lives of so many people. My heart goes out to all the members of your amazing family. Godspeed.-- Scott & Anna Schad

Having known David for over 35 years, I feel confident he is still full of his magical energy, strategizing, and working on another deal. A brilliant soul, and often misunderstood.
Good bye , our friend, thank you for your guiding light.
