April 29th 1987 was the day I had heart surgery, and I occasionally look up the doctors that saved my life 38 years ago. I am so sad to see Dr Clarke has passed away. Sending peace and love to his family and friends, he was a true gem to the medial world.

Dave was a down-home guy, a very genuine person, and of course a highly skilled and regarded pediatric cardiac surgeon. He was a pioneer in outcome analysis for our specialty, and his full legacy will have many facets. The world is a poorer place after the loss of such an outstanding contributor and friend.

Dave and I worked together from residency days. We were at Great Ormond Street Hospital at the same time, he learning pediatric cardiac surgery and I pediatric anesthesia. We then worked together at Children's Hospital for many years until his retirement. He was a fine surgeon who built a strong program at Children's, and I have fond memories of those years.

I will miss my golf buddy and friend. The world was a better place with you in it. I hope you´re hitting it straight up there Dave. I miss you already.

I worked with Dave as co-chair on COMIRB's panel B for several years. I remember sitting next to him for hours every Tuesday morning working through our pile of chair reviews. He was such a great mentor and partner in our work to protect patients in research. At the beginning I was a little intimidated to be working alongside someone so experienced and accomplished, but he was nothing but gracious and supportive.
One year, we attended a PRIM&R meeting together in San Diego where I learned that despite being from landlocked Wyoming, Dave was a lover of oysters! Being an oyster aficionado myself we had a great and unexpected bonding moment over oyster shooters.
When my daughter was born 12 years ago, Dave and Deborah sent us a baby blanket which has become tattered with use but which we have kept for its sentimental value.
I will miss you, Dave.
My deepest sympathies to your loving family,
Dianna Quan
