David Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2015.

Loving Husband, Father, Brother

Waynesville-Gary “David” Cooper, 52, of Waynesville, went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2015, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. David was born in Haywood County on May 27, 1962, to Gary Cooper and the late Alice Mathis Cooper. David enjoyed camping, fishing, rafting and “riding the back roads”. He was a hard worker who provided well for his family.

In addition to his mother, David was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; an uncle, Dave Mathis; special cousin, Frankie Mathis; Madie Chapman (Mamaw); his step-mother, Mae Cooper; and his father-in-law, Bobby Stamey.

David is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Nancy Cooper; his father, Gary Cooper; mother-in-law, Marie Stamey; son, Jeremiah Cooper; daughters, Nicole Cooper, Kayla Putnam, and Erica “girl” Stallard; brother, Brian “Puddin” Cooper (Melissa); sister, Sandra Nichols (John); and step-sister, Sonya Harper (Max). David was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and several special friends.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 8, in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Reverend Ronald Greene officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Down Syndrome Society at 666 Broadway, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10012.

The family would like to offer a word of thanks to Ed Spencer, RN and to Haywood County EMS.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
