David Cope

We are so saddened to hear of David´s passing. We were fortunate enough to have David in our classrooms in 5th, 6th and 7th grades. As we were reminiscing last night, we decided to try to look David up and were shocked to see his obituary. He was in Boy Scouts with our son and on the same baseball team in Saudi Arabia. David always had a smile and made the most of every moment. We were also surprised to see he was living in Tacoma and had been stationed in Bremerton since we too live in that area only minutes away. Watching his whale videos and reading of all of his accomplishments made us smile because we witnessed his kind nature and zest for life in his younger years. We see that David touched the lives of so many in his short time on this earth, but are happy that we could be a part of his younger journey to experience the making of such an incredible human. Although we haven´t been in touch with David for years, we feel his loss and are thinking about his family and all the others that loved him.

I am so lucky to have met you. You were one of the first people I met in the whale community. You were with one of your dogs, we both shared our fake names on fb then parted ways. I saw my 1st humpback the same day you took this drone video. Your passion for whales and connection to Malachite was amazing to see. I saw you for the last time a few days before you passed. You said whales are out and smiled, we parted ways for the last time fly dmc. You'll be dearly missed on the beach my friend, until next time.

What an impressive young man! I am so sorry I never had the privilege of meeting him, although, I feel a connection through my friendship with his mother, Connie. Such a great loss for his family, friends and fellow naval servicemen.

Mike and I were absolutely devastated to learn of David's passing. Mike and I felt so privileged to have been a small part of David's life and to have been present for a few of his biggest achievements and momentous occasions. You are in our thoughts and prayers everyday.

I met Dave while riding my bicycle in the park. He usually had at least one dog with him and he let me get my "dog fix" by getting to know his dogs. Over the years we talked about all kinds of things and Dave was very understanding of some of my challenges in life. He will be greatly missed by his park friends and each time I see a whale or hear the calls of eagles and owls I will feel his presents and relive some of the times we shared.

Very sad to hear of David's passing. So many great memories of time spent with the Cope boys - camping, running around Prairie View, seeing him as a returning student and growing up into a young man. My deepest condolences to Connie, Jon and Kevin, and to David's wife and loved ones. He was a special guy.

Very sad to hear of Dave´s passing. I have great memories of Dave from his "college" days and his time in Dhahran. I also had the great pleasure of meeting his parents when Dave was considering an appointment to the Naval Academy. This world will miss such a gifted person and a pure soul. Rest easy Dave and God bless your family and friends. I´m honored to have known you.

David was the reason my son and I got to see orcas at Dune Peninsula. He was so kind and called me so we could see them. I also got to enjoy walking with him and his dogs. He was a great source of information about the area and the whales. I am so very sorry he is gone and so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful, caring person.

As we (Chris & I) knew him, David was a very mature and focused young man. It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye - a loss for his family & friends and society as a whole.

So very saddened to learn of David's passing. What an accomplished young man. I will always remember him sitting under the butcher block table listening to our happy hour conversations.
