Dave enjoyed family. One Thanksgiving, he and I were in the same horse-drawn sleigh, and we couldn´t stop laughing because none of us could remember anything beyond the chorus of the Christmas carols. Another year, we ate down a long hall with the valet parking so far away. Even though he had an oxygen tank by then, Dave walked the entire distance beside me, chatting warmly without ever slowing down or complaining. He got into his car with a smile, waved to everyone. That is the last time I saw him. May his journey on the other side be full of health and happiness. Sincerely, Sandra Kist (Calif. Cousin)

Deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing (Thank you, Charlie Burns, for letting his old friends know). Met Dave during law school years in Carbondale (1981-1984) and it grew into a lifelong friendship.
Dave was a very popular guy in our class, great softball player and very fun guy. Countless fun memories with Dave over the years.
And, I concur with another comment here about Dave's gentle nature behind that gregarious personality. I saw it many times over the years but I always remembered one afternoon in the Summer of 1983 when it shone thru. Dave and I came up from Carbondale with another classmate who was a diehard Cubs fan but had never been to Wrigley Field in his life (he was from Jacksonville, IL). The three of us hopped on the "L" to Wrigley Field, picked up a few grandstand seats and went inside. Our Jacksonville buddy was like a kid in a candy store. When we got to our seats, the classmate was sitting directly behind one of those giant steel pillars supporting the Upper Deck above us. He couldn't see anything on the field. Dave immediately gave up his seat so our buddy could watch the action and Dave sat behind this massive pillar with a huge grin on his face asking what happened every time the crowd cheered. With the help of a few Old Style's, we started "broadcasting" the game to him. By the ninth inning, our stomach muscles were hurting from laughing so hard.
It's just a small anecdote but it was vintage Dave Costello. He turned a lousy situation into a spectacular afternoon.
He always brought a little sunshine with him.
God bless you, Dave..............................and thanks for the memories.

Dave was in my life for several years. He was practically a step-father. We would have Easter at his brother Bill´s. I remember watching the Ten Commandments there with his nieces. Rachel is one I had gone to St. Barnabas with. They were all wonderful. I remember he took me and my mother and his nieces Cat and Maureen to the Art Institute. It was a great time. R.I.P. Dave.

David had such a caring nature and generous one too! Always one to slip a $5 into the hand, or his beautiful annual gift XMas of the adoption of an animal at Lincoln Park Zoo. Each year a different animal. RIP

Big D was a teddy bear of a guy with a caring disposition. Here is a bunch of old friends earlier in the year at Rosies. Dave was sharing great stories and having a swell time. He will be sorely missed.

The Costello family were neighbors of my family, the McMahon family. There was a stray cat I wanted desperately, mom said it can stay in the garage. Well the cat had kittens! Dave and family took a pure white one!
Great guy. The McMahon family sending HUGS to the entire Costello family.
