David M. Cromwell, 73, of Middletown, NJ, died peacefully on April 26, 2018. David was born in Cincinnati, OH on September 21, 1944 to the late Howard and Treva Cromwell. He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and NYU's Graduate School of Business. From 1966-1995, David worked at Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. (now JPMorgan Chase). Over his 30-year career with the firm, he held various positions: most notably as President & CEO of JPMorgan Capital Corp., the bank's private equity investment group, including venture capital and LBO investments for U.S. and overseas. After his distinguished banking career, from 1996-2016, David taught Venture Capital & Private Equity Investment courses at the Yale School of Management (SOM). He earned recognition as Yale SOM's "Teacher of the Year" four times, and was an investor and advisor for new business ventures in Yale and New Haven. In 1986, David purchased the Stone House Farm in Stow, ME, which sits on 880 acres nestled in the White Mountains. He lovingly restored the property and trails, which will continue to provide a retreat for generations to come. David will be most remembered for his generosity of spirit, quirky sense of humor, tremendous kindness, and guidance to both his students and family. He is survived by his second wife of 25 years, Sharon Landry of Middletown, NJ; three children from his first marriage to Sue Cromwell of Montville, NJ; three step- children; a sister (Judy Heyde) of Charlottesville, VA; nine grandchildren; a niece and nephew. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 12-3pm at Raven and the Peach, 740 River Road, Fair Haven, NJ 07704. A private interment service will be held at the Stone House in October.
