David DeRosa Obituary

Published by The Reporter from Jul. 6 to Jul. 7, 2018.
David G. DeRosa, 46, of Trappe, PA passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2018. Dave was born on May 23, 1972 and was raised in Lansdale, PA. He has been living in Trappe for the past 18 years with his wife of 19 years, Wendy L. (Hall) DeRosa, and his three children, Katie DeRosa, Justin DeRosa and Luke DeRosa. Dave taught 5th Grade Math at Upper Merion Middle School where he was inducted into the Upper Merion Wall of Fame for his outstanding service. He also devoted much of his time outside the classroom to the College Settlement Camp and the North Penn Boys & Girls Club. Dave led an extraordinary life, inspiring countless people every day. He brought math to life for his students with his creative lessons, including his custom-made Hippopotamus tie and his 20-foot inflatable whale. He was also known for impersonating a pirate and surprise visits while dressed as a T-Rex or Troll. Dave was passionate about running and competed in a half-marathon, mud-run, 10K or 5K nearly every weekend. He was also active in several local running clubs. He excelled at woodworking and home improvement and always had a project underway at home or at his family’s summer home in Maine. Above all else, he devoted his life to his family and giving back in his community. Dave lived every day to the fullest and he will be dearly missed. In addition to Wendy, Katie, Justin and Luke, Dave is survived by: parents, Michael A. & Ellen M. (Kelley) DeRosa of Lansdale, PA; brother, Michael A. (& Glenna) DeRosa of Tampa, FL; mother and father in law, Leonard & Linda Hall of Ocean Pines, MD; and sister in law, Julie Hall of Newark, DE. Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, PA 19426. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 10, at 4:00 PM in the Auditorium at Upper Merion Middle School, 450 Keebler Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406. Burial will be private in Augustus Lutheran Cemetery, Trappe, PA. Today the world seems a little less bright, a little less cheerful, and a little less fun. Today we woke up to a world with Dave DeRosa no longer among us. In his way too short, 46 years of life, he managed to touch us all, and make us love him with infectious smile, and permanently positive attitude. As a good friend and neighbor said of Dave, God really took a good one today! None of us here, in all his circles of friends and family could ever say a bad word about him. Everybody truly loved Dave! He was the guy who you could always count onfor ANYTHING! When a neighbor or friend was in any kind of crisis, Dave was the first one to respond with much needed assistance, and he did it with his ever-present smile, and gave you all the confidence that the crisis was take care of. I've known Dave for only 10 short years, and in that short time I have several recollections of Dave doing just that, including checking on my wife's condition after she was involved in a car accident on 422, with Dave just a few cars behind her, and coming to the aid of a neighbors' daughter, just a couple of weeks ago, when they out of town, except for the daughter, and their hot water heater burst and began to flood. I am sure that every one of us could tell many of these stories, and we could be here for a very long time extolling his virtues and what a wonderful person he was. When things like this happen that we just can't understand, we try to rectify it in our heads and say things like, it was just his time because we just cannot come up with the word or reasoning to make sense of it all. My personal takeaway from this, is live by Dave's example. Live life to the fullest, as he did, as an honor to him. As I was looking on his Facebook page, at the photos and the outpouring of loving comments from all the people in his life, in the past 24 hours, I could not help but notice 2 things. Once again, his ever-present smile, and the fact that he truly did live a full life. We all benefited from knowing him for whatever too brief period that we did, but he touched us all by cramming in lots of experience, travel, good will, and laughter. I feel blessed to have known Dave, and will honor his memory, by trying, as he did, to thrust into each day with zeal and humor, as if it were my last, because someday it will be. Dave was a wonderful father, husband, son, neighbor, teacher, runner, and most of all, person! God speed my friend!

Going to miss you greatly, brother. I know we are not actual brothers, just a common last name... but I definitely feel like a brother to you.
I have a lot of great high school, college and early family memories from you. We each had a lot of responsibility lately, thankfully we hit a few concerts and weekend dinners with the group lately.

Always supportive, amazingly upbeat, and a great father, husband and friend to all that new him.

A great loss, one of our best has moved on, and I'm sure he's running a 10K in a better place, teaching them all patience, self-perseverence, and the joy of a good laugh.
