David Dix Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 20, 2024.
David James Dix died of a heart attack January 4, 2024 at his home in Austin, Texas. He was 61 years old.

Dave was born November 21, 1962, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His childhood was spent in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and New Canaan, Connecticut. He was a graduate of New Canaan High School and Brigham Young University.

Dave was a gifted storyteller and visionary, with a successful career in journalism, public relations, and corporate strategy. His early career in the tech industry included stints at Wired, CNET and Dell. He later established his own consulting firm, where he brought his strategy and communications expertise to a wide spectrum of businesses in the technology and healthcare sectors.

Dave was endlessly curious and deeply philosophical. His passions included basketball, animals (especially dogs), and the guitar. He was an avid reader and delighted in learning, with interests in art, music, literature, history, politics, and science. He created the online newsletter "Serendipitous Epiphany," where he frequently shared observations gathered from an incredibly wide range of sources. He was kind hearted, funny, insightful, and a great listener who loved to help others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David D. Dix and Sylvia S. Dix. Survivors include a sister, Jennifer Dix; his beloved Octavia Gibson; dear friends Gwen Rosewater and Keith Redin; and a host of loving cousins, colleagues, and friends both in person and online.

Cremation took place in Austin. Donations in Dave's memory may be made to North Austin Foundation (https://northaustinfoundation.com/) or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (https://bestfriends.org/). A memorial service is tentatively planned for the spring. To be notified of plans, please email [email protected]

David and I met as friends through an online community around 2017. We shared common interests in politics and business, and came from similar backgrounds (I attended college in Wellesley and then later worked and lived in Fairfield County, both place Dave was intimately familiar with). We had many lively debates and corresponded regularly. I will miss David. May his memory be a blessing.
