On the surface, Dave was simply a fine banker for my organization, the Delaware Office of the State Treasurer. That in itself is noteworthy.
But, it would be grossly insufficient to leave it at that. Dave and I developed a bond that transcended our professional relationship. I know him to be a man of integrity, skill, humor and compassion. I am certain that he brought those traits with him wherever he went.
In short, Dave cared. When he spoke, I listened, because I knew he always said something worth hearing. Just as important, when I spoke, he always listened....and I truly felt heard. I will tell you that each conversation I had with Dave -- whether via the phone, email or in person -- enhanced the reputation of his organization. The leadership of the bank has never made a better decision than to make Dave Dunlap a part of that team.
It's hard for me to imagine a stranger not wanting to be his friend. Dave Dunlap was my friend, and I am the better person for that friendship. I mourn his death. I will miss him -- there is no doubt about that. But, I'd like to think that Dave's spirit will live on in me, and in all of the people he has touched. Dave Dunlap was a blessing to so many.

To the Dunlap family. I was shocked beyond words when I saw this notice online today. I had lost contact with Dave as my career took me to 5 states over the years. Dave and I attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science together and then were roommates during the year of our apprenticeships, Dave at McCabe Bros. and me at Thomas L. Nied, Inc. I knew Dave's dad during his years at St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg. Back in the day, we were good friends and comrades. We had touched base a few times during his time at Mellon and I had moved into Financial Services with Merrill Lynch and others. Debra, Dave was a good and decent man, and a trusting friend. I will always remember our good times together as our careers started. I wish we had been able to stay in touch more frequently. Rest In Peace, Dave. God Bless. And my most sincere condolences to Debra, Mr. and Mrs. Dunlap, and the entire family.

What a friend and brother in Christ. His life was a living testimony of relationships and accountability. The Bible tells us that no greater love has a man than to lay his life for his friends. All the men from the Oakmont Saturday Breakfast and the Butler Experiment Group are living testimonies to his leadership, his courage to fighting a good fight, his endurance to finish the race and always being mindful to give God the glory. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I knew Dave many years ago when we both worked for Mellon. As others have said, Dave was such a nice, kind and gracious man. He would go out of his way to help anyone. May he rest in peace.

My deepest heartfelt sympathy to Deb and the whole family. I have known Dave for many years through Mellon, The Pittsburgh Experiment, a Saturday men's breakfast group and as a biking companion. I was truly blessed to know him and will miss him deeply. This I know for sure; Dave is with his heavenly father and that he heard the words 'well done my good and faithful servant'.
Rest in peace brother, you fought the good fight.

My deepest and most sincere condolences to Debra, and all of Dave's family and friends. I cannot imagine what you have been, and are, going through. I had the pleasure of working with Dave over the last 15 years or so, and even if there were obstacles to overcome, Dave's attitiude was always collabortive and positive. It was exceedingly rare to not see him with a smile on his face. He voiced and showed his appreciation. I will miss talking cars with him. Godspeed, my friend.

I worked closely with David for years when I worked at the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington DC. I also used to meet him for Breakfast at the Cracker Barrel Rest. in New Stanton the Friday after Thanksgiving for several years. He was the most Professional and of the nicest person I ever worked with or knew. He always had a positive attitude and offered condolences when my only daughter passed away too soon. May he rest in peace and I am so sorry to hear of his loss condolences to his wife and family he would definitely be missed.
