David Edgecomb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 18, 2025.
David Charles Edgecomb, 54, of Amesbury, MA, passed away on July 12, 2025 following a long courageous battle with Leukemia. He was born in Bangor, Maine on September 2, 1970 to Walter 'Chip' Charles Edgecomb, Jr. and Cheryl Hanson Edgecomb.

David grew up in Hallowell where he graduated from Hall-Dale High School in 1989 before going on to earn a B.S. Degree in Management Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, NY in 1993. While attending R.P.I. he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the R.P.I. Varsity Baseball Team.

David worked Summers during College in the I.T. Department for C.M.P. in Augusta, ME before accepting positions at Unum/Provident, Pricewaterhouse/Coopers, Siebel Systems, eLoyalty, Oracle and finally SAP SuccessFactors where he has been the Service Delivery Lead - North America Chief Customer Officer for the past 12 years. David loved traveling and meeting new challenges in his work and took extreme pride in giving his best helping his clients.

His interests and hobbies were many and diverse, David was a life-long Red Sox and Celtics Fan, though he enjoyed watching any baseball or basketball game in person when he was able. He enjoyed food from many cultures either prepared by himself or in a fine restaurant. Friends describe Dave aptly as 'larger than life', with his sarcastic sense of humor, quick wit, big laugh and generous smile for which he will forever be remembered and sorely missed. Never one to shy away from sensitive subjects, David liked to engage fully with people, be it roughhousing with children or discussing politics. He was there for family and friends when they faced difficult times and truly believed in giving back to society, may we honor him now by giving more of ourselves this way.

David is survived by his loving fiancé, Wendy Warren Locke, who saw him through the hardest fight of his life with courage, strength and determination; beloved son, Brandon Charles Edgecomb who was his pride and joy; parents, Chip & Cheryl Edgecomb; sister Kristina Stewart (Gregory); nephews Sean (Ivy) & Alex Stewart; Wendy's children son Brandon (Abriana), son Taylor (Jill), son Chad (Karry), daughter Ava (Devin), daughter Alayna (Jason) and many treasured shared grandchildren. David will also be extremely missed by Reagan, a four-legged critter acquired for Wendy, but who soon formed a close bond with Dave.

David was predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents Herbert & Shirley Hanson of Pittsfield, ME and Paternal Grandparents Walter & Mary Edgecomb Sr. of Hermon, ME.

David fought hard to stay with us, but the Lord had other plans ...

As you all have, I have been thinking a lot about Dave this week.

Dave and I started at SAP in early 2013, but we got to know each other and became friends about four years ago.

Like most SAP colleagues, we only met in person a few times but spoke on the phone almost daily. While Dave was always concerned about doing right by our customers, our conversations went beyond that. Even when Dave was diagnosed and undergoing treatments, our discussions continued. Not as often, but just as animated.

Dave and I seldom saw eye-to-eye on politics, one of his favorite topics. I often wondered if it was appropriate to discuss politics with someone who was having a transfusion. As he sat in his chair, on camera, he had the time, and I enjoyed talking to him. Even though we never agreed, we always ended the conversation as good friends.

We agreed about family, work, customers, colleagues, and friends. I learned a lot from Dave. I enjoyed working with him and getting to know him even more.

I have tried to tell people about Dave´s passing, but he knew everybody, not just at SAP. I´ve told some customers whom Dave worked with, and their reaction was the same as that of his colleagues and friends. Dave made an impression on everyone, and that impression will always be with us.

Goodbye, my friend! Rest in peace.

Dave and I became friends over the last 10 years because of our connection between Brandon and my 2 sons. My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Wendy when Dave visited Chicago several years ago. We had a great dinner and enjoyed talking about Wendy´s children. Dave was a great father and was a tremendous influence on Brandon. Brandon has become a great young man and he made a difficult call to let me know that his Dad had passed. I´m comforted to know that Dave is no longer in pain. He will be missed by all of his Elmwood Park friends. The world has lost a great man. I will miss talking baseball, football and basketball and our spirited politics discussions. Dave and I had similar philosophies on raising children and the way we thought the world would should be. RIP my good friend.

Best friend anyone could ask for. God blessed you with love and kindness. I will miss you your laughter after kicking my butt in chess. I will remember all your advice and your kind words. You were a gift from Jesus Christ to have been in my life. I will always remember you and love you.
