David Joseph Ferretti

December 1, 1939 - October 20, 2017

On Friday October 20, 2017, David, a beloved husband, father, "Pop-Pop", brother, uncle and friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family, after a short but valiant fight with cancer. He was a native San Franciscan, dedicated family man and a successful high technology executive with a large number of cherished friends. He was born December 1, 1939 in San Francisco, the son of Joseph and Elma Ferretti. He graduated from Balboa High School, where he was class president and played on the football team. He met and married the love of his life, Myrna "Mimi" Lugo, and they raised a son David and a daughter Dina in the San Francisco bay area and in Colorado. Following graduation from Cogswell Polytechnical College, he started his career in the construction industry as a project engineer. He went on to get his bachelor's degree from the College of Notre Dame, and always the consummate 'people person', he found his true career calling as a vice president in developing and managing the human resources departments for several Global 1000 multi-national high technology firms, including Ford Aerospace, Philips and Ascom TImeplex. He retired from the industry he started in, managing human resources at Swinerton Builders in San Francisco. He is survived by his wife, Mimi, son David (Amy), daughter Dina, and being Pop-Pop to his 4 cherished grandchildren, Sean, Danielle, Kaitlyn and April (Jared). He is also survived by his sisters Joyce and Cookie, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, and countless friends and colleagues.

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a ride!' "
