David Forbis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2011.

GREENSBORO — David Richard Forbis, 48, died at his residence Friday, October 14, 2011.

An 11 a.m. Memorial Service will be held Thursday October 20, 2011 at Calvary Church, 1665 Pleasant Ridge Road, Greensboro.

David was born in Winston Salem, NC on April 30, 1963 to Louise Wyrick Forbis and the late Gray Forbis. After graduation from North Surry High School in Mt. Airy, NC he entered the United States Navy and served his country for 5 years in the Persian Gulf. Upon his return he began his career in aircraft maintenance and had proudly worked as quality control supervisor with Timco the past 18 years.

David loved traveling and learning about different cultures. He adored hunting, fishing, riding ATV's and watching football. David took pride in his work and was a loyal friend to all. He was fond of his dogs Toby and Mikey, but most importantly, he loved Tim and felt all the pride a father could have for his son.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gray Thomas Forbis.

He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Forbis. Also surviving is his son, Timothy Gray Forbis. Other survivors include his mother, Louise Forbis, his sisters Kay Wilmoth (Jack) of Dobson, NC and Carole Leftwich (Steve) of Carolina Beach, NC as well as one niece, four nephews, and six great nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 19 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel.

Online condolences may be sent to www.forbisanddick.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Timothy Forbis' College Fund.

Dave, I feel very fortunate to have had the privilage knowing you, working with you and on occasions working for you. Your guidance and wisdom has helped many of us with the sometimes difficult transition from the maintenance culture to that of being an inspector. Most of all, you were a friend to everyone that knew you and you will be missed. It will be nearly impossible to fill void I know all of us feel. Thanks for everything and may GOD receive you into his loving arms and give your family the grace and strength they are going to need as time goes on.

Dave, You were one of the 1st 2 Inspectors to welcome me to the Dept. I remember you telling me that if I needed anything from Inspection, to let you know. I appreciated that, It made the transition from the Maintenance floor alot easier. Thanks and May God welcome you into his Kingdom.
