Dr. David Joseph Gleason

Thank you so much dear people from my children, grandchildren, and me. He was indeed a very special man.

My sincere condolences on the passing of your husband and father. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

Teacher, coach, fellow Spartan and consummate gentleman. RIP and my condolences to the entire Gleason family.

I remember Dave mainly as a fine athlete. I was often his teammate and sometimes his opponent. Either way, he was one of the best.

We at the Forum for Youth Investment are saddened to hear about Dave's passing. Dave's unstoppable commitment to preserving Dave Weikart's legacy led to his joining the Forum Board to help orchestrate the creation of the Weikart Center. We feel his absence even more keenly now.

I was surprised this week when I stopped and thought about all the doors to new friendships and opportunities that Dave opened for me...there were so many! Dave was larger than life and will remain so even now. Sending all my wishes to the Gleason family that you will find, in your own time, your own best way to forever carry Dave in your hearts.

Dave was a dear friend, and I mourn his loss. He influenced me in so many positive ways. I admired his wisdom, his loyalty to friends and colleagues, and his passion for children and families during the ten years we worked together. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I had Mr. Gleason for homeroom at DePaul Diocesan High School in 1974-1976, my freshman and sophomore years. My mother had died the summer before my freshman year and I was depressed. David Gleason took an interest in me at a critical time in my life, something I have never forgotten. I took his class and still remember one of the books that he had me read--Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange land." I was part of a group of students whom he organized to tutor in Paterson. I have often thought about Mr. Gleason over the years and am sorry that I never saw him again after I left DePaul. He lives on in my heart and was a big influence in my life. My condolences to his family for the loss of a compassionate, intelligent, and dedicated leader who truly walked the talk.

Dave and I are so sorry to hear about Mr. Gleason's passing. He was so greatly admired and respected by the students at De Paul high school, no small feat to be considered awesome by high school kids! I was proud to be in his classroom for home room my freshman year. I have thought of him and his always gentle manner fondly as one of my favorite De Psul experiences.

Mr. Gleason was my teacher at DePaul High School, Wayne, NJ (1967-1971). I admired him for his dedication to his students and his desire to help those less fortunate. He helped us organize a group of students to tutor children after school in Paterson, NJ. I have had many teachers in my life, but few who inspired and challenged me as he did. I have thought of him often over the years. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Mr. Gleason was one of the most memorable teachers I had and I still remember him forty years later. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and especially his sister Jane who was a classmate of mine.

I will miss Dave Gleason so much. He helped with the Bright Spaces soooooo much! Last year he let me cut the ribbon at the opening to a Bright Space with Little Miles.we will miss you for always!!! We love you!

Corrine - it was really special spending time with you and your children this afternoon. Dave was often with me during major milestones in my life, often helping to shape my future and success. I can't begin to tell you how much I will miss just knowing that he isn't there for me to call.

Dave was the epitome of the phrase "still waters run deep". This gentle and oh-so-wise man influenced me in many ways and taught me even more. Sending prayers of peace and goodwill to all of the Gleasons right now. Your husband and father was a lovely and remarkable man.
