David Goodwin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2018.
David M. Goodwin

Hyde Park - David M. Goodwin, 55, a longtime Hyde Park resident, died on Monday, September 24, 2018 at the Montefiore Nyack Hospital following a short illness. He left this world peacefully in the company of his wife and children.

Born in Schenectady on May 8, 1963, he was the son of the late William Goodwin and Geraldine Zell Goodwin. He was a graduate of Linton High School in Schenectady and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. He was hired as a tool and die maker for IBM directly out of college and worked there for 32 years. He transitioned to Global Foundries in 2015.

On September 22, 1990, he married the former Gabrielle Richard. Mrs. Goodwin survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Zack and Kyle, both of Hyde Park; sister, Deborah Debes, and husband, Keith, of Texas; brother, Edward Goodwin, and wife, Patsy, of Texas; half-sister, Jennifer Goodwin of Burnt Hills, NY; 28 nieces and nephews; and Kristen Phillips, who was like a daughter to him. He had an extended family of in-law and cousins that loved him.

Dave loved cars and was an avid Mopar enthusiast and collector. He was proud of his Barracudas, one of which, a 1969 Mod Top, was featured in Hemmings Motor News classic car edition. With Dave, every week there was something new coming… a sticker, a tail light, maybe a quarter panel.

He also liked hunting and shooting with his friends in Middleburgh. For Dave, it was more about the socialization than the actual hunt.

Many weekends one could find him at his second home on Tug Hill. He loved to go up and get away from it all. Although only owning it for a few years, Dave was in his element there. There were no schedules. If he wanted to just sit by the woodstove and chill, that's what he did. He loved to sit outside at night and listen to the quiet. He made some good friends in his time there and always spoke about it with a smile on his face.

Dave was a man of few words. He forged some close friendships in his life. There were a select few that he could really open up to. That was big for Dave.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial calling hours will be from 1 to 4 pm, Saturday, September 29, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

A celebration of Dave's life will be at 3 pm during the visitation. Rev. Thomas Fiet will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the Goodwin family respectfully requests memorial donations to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Suite B, Centennial, CO 80112. (www.stroke.org)

To Dave's wife and children,I am so very saddened to learn of Dave's untimely passing. I worked with Dave for many years at IBM. Not a day went by that he didn't take the time to chat with me. We had many good laughs together. He was always proud when speaking of his wife and children. I am so fortunate to have known him and had such a good report with him. i pray your very many beautiful memories together comfort each of you until in God's timing you are reunited. Know he spoke of his wife and children very often with such pride.I never see a Baracuda without thinking of him. Respectfully,Kerry

Gabrielle, Zack and Kyle, Our sincere condolences for your loss. Dave, my husband Jim, along with a great team of other co-workers that started at IBM at the same time, from apprenticeship to working in the shop to spending some fun times together outside of work so long ago but fondest memories. The last time we saw Dave and the last time the crew was all together that I can remember was 1988 at our wedding. Life takes us down different paths, but the treasured memories stay with us forever. He will live on through sharing your treasured memories of him. God Bless.

I'm sadden to learn of Dave's passing. I worked with Dave back in the 80's at IBM. A group of us from IBM used to ride motorcycles together, play softball and go to the Pirate's Canoe Club. I remember Dave liked wearing cowboy boots, one pair were snake skin, so we nicknamed him "Snake Bite" Also Dave always hosted St Patty's Day and cooked dinner for us. Dave was a great Toolmaker and proud of his work. My condolences to the Goodwin family during this difficult time. - Joby Sour
