David Grant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 12 to Jul. 13, 2023.
On April 8, 2023, David Grant went peacefully to heaven, shortly before his 90th birthday. Beloved father, grandfather, uncle, friend, chaplain and counselor, he will be deeply missed. David will be remembered mostly for his friendliness, humor & quick wit, heartfelt prayers, deep analytical thinking, heart to help the hurting, his love of nature and gardening and the 'famous' things made for those he loved: jalape?o jelly, apricot preserves and his delicious homemade ice cream.

He is survived by his sister Barbara, his four children: Brenda (& husband Manny), Julene (& husband Phil), Celeste, and Kevin (& wife Jennifer), plus five grandchildren: Luke, Jordan, Logan, Chloe & Nico.

Born in Dallas, TX, in 1933 to U.S. & Lillian Grant, he was the eldest of four children. After attending Bob Jones University and Central Bible Institute, earning degrees in Public Speaking and Theology, he began his life in ministry, a 'call' that came early in his life. Relocating to and remaining in Los Angeles, CA, he sang on worship albums, produced a movie and worked for Youth for Christ, traveling the world with Campus Crusade. During this time he was mentored by Bill Bright and Henrietta Mears, assisting with the College Department at Hollywood Presbyterian Church.

After marrying and starting his family, he pursued a career in motivational speaking. Always learning and wanting to help others grow, he developed tools like his famous "Attitude Builder," authored seven books, including "The Great Lovers Manifesto" and "The Ultimate Power,"developed a radio program called "Learning to Love," while leading multiple Bible studies, counseling hundreds of individuals and serving as the Chaplain at the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF). As Chaplain, he officiated innumerable funerals and weddings, started a "Joyful Noise" choir with the residents, and was fortunate enough to live his last two years of life there, amongst many of those whose lives he had touched, still lovingly called "Pastor Grant."

David passionately taught about "Agape Love" (even had "Doc Agape" on his license plate!) and we are certain he is now experiencing this love first hand in his forever home in heaven.

His Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 10am, at Bel Air Presbyterian Church.
