DAVID TOWNSEND GRIFFIN Sr.

Mr. David Townsend Griffin, Sr. FLORENCE - Funeral service for Mr. David Townsend Griffin, Sr. will be conducted 12:00 Noon Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at J.O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 S. Johns St., Florence. Interment will follow at Florence National Cemetery directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC. David, affectionately called by his family and friends Tweety Bird or Deebie, a son of Annie Ruth Wingate and the late Calamus Wingate was born on January 12, 1954 in Hartsville, SC. He died on Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Augusta, GA. He attended McClenagh-an High School and graduated in the class of 1975. David served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Idella T. Griffin, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his mother, Annie Ruth Wingate; seven sons, AG1 (AW/SW) David (Shanna) T. Griffin, Jr., Lamont A. Griffin, Antonio Shaw, Andre Cannon, Myron Cannon, Lorenzo Cannon, Eric Cannon; one daughter, Naomi Foster; brothers and sisters, Janice (David) Gee of Bridgeport,m CT, Sharon Gurley of Florence, SC, Gwendolyn Smalls and Deloris (Laverne) Moses both of Darlington, SC, Carolyn Wingate and Larry Abraham both of Winston Salem, NC; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; five special nieces and nephews, Chastity Y. Griffin, Lemetrius Griffin, Ashley Echols, Nathaniel Gurley and Demont "Despicable Me" Spears, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, 6-7 pm at the funeral home and other times the family will receive friends at 3320 S. Oliver Dr. (Southern Pines Subdivision) Florence.
