David Hammond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 5, 2016.
David Henry Hammond COLUMBIA The graveside service for David Henry Hammond, 60, of Columbia, will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen Taylor will officiate. A gathering/visitation with family will be held at Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, following the service, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Mr. Hammond died on Friday, September 23, 2016 at his home. Born March 23, 1956, in Tallahassee, Florida, he was a son of the late C. Henry Hammond and Beverly Louise Zierdt Hammond. David was a graduate of Irmo High School and Midlands Technical College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was a member of Union United Methodist Church of Irmo. He worked for many years as a computer service technician, with his last place of employment being Richland School District One in Columbia, SC. He enjoyed playing Santa for the youth and children at SCDJJ for over 10 years, but his greatest pleasure came from serving his Lord, especially over the years by participating in the choir, Easter Alive, and The Living Christmas Story. He was always learning from his journeys through the Bible. He battled many storms with his health but is now resting in the Lord's loving arms. We will miss you but we know we will see you again. Surviving to cherish his memories are his sons, David H. (Sarah) Hammond, Jr. of Lexington, SC, and Thomas E. (Melissa) Hammond of Waco, KY; stepchildren, Marsha (Joe) Lawson of Waco, KY, and Alexis and Quentin Kyzer of Irmo, SC; the joys of his life grandchildren Natosha (Dean), Ashley, Christopher, Brandon, Alyssa, Dixie, Lorena, Twila, Dylan, Trevor, and Chandler; great-grandson Robert; sister Sheryl H. Hoskins of Columbia, SC; brother, Steve Hammond of Lexington, SC; nieces and nephews; aunt Frances H. French of Irmo, SC; and "the love of his life," Mary Adams Hammond of Irmo, SC. Those who preceded him in death include his parents, and brother, Glenn Hammond. Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church (Music or TLCS), P.O. Box 705, Irmo, SC 29063 or the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. On-line condolences may be sent to www.templeshalloranfuneralhome.com.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. David was a friend of mine and we shared many experiences through music, Easter Alive and mutual friends. I am happy that he has found his eternal home .

Mary,

I am saddened as well as surprised with the news of David's passing. You may recall he and I grew up together and in later years, I worked with his father. Then for my homeroom pal (you) to marry him certainly evokes the term, small world.
As we are taught in our Christian lives, those who believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. The promise has been fulfilled.
Know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Recalling the moments of your lives together leads to peace. I hope you never run out of those moments.

I was privileged to know David for many years. We attended Midlands tech together and worked together in the electronics industry for years. David was always a true friend. Condolences to the family. May God comfort you in this time of loss.
