To the dear Heeke family,
I wanted to send sincere condolences to your family. Your entire clan made such an impression on me growing up. During the years I babysat for you, I learned so much personally about family, parenting, love and family first. (I would also go on to have four children!) In your photos I still see the love, laughter and unity of your family. It warms my heart. I am certain Dave will be greatly missed. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
With love,
Jody (Cherf) Comstock

The whole Schlosser/Heeke family is one of the most loving family's I have ever met. Kate's one of my bestfriends and generally when having a bestfriend you get to know there parents, siblings, pets, etc but when you get to meet there grandparents, you know for a fact that they are an important part in there life and mean a lot to them! You could tell both of Kate's grandparents were a big part of her life, and meant a lot to her. This past summer we went up to the cottage in Michigan to vacation for a couple days. It wasn't your normal vacation where you tan, swim, and lounge around. Although there was a lot of lounging on this trip is was definitely not meaningless lounging as we liked to think of it, it was lay in the basement for hours watching some great movies:), it was having family sit down dinners every night, making great memories, and mainly having some "Happy Days" up at the cottage! One main thing I will never forget about this trip was sitting outside on the back deck, it was a little chilly outside so we have towels around our legs, and I remember grandpa Heeke bringing us girls out Shirley temples! They were one of the best Shirley temples I've probably ever had, they were in the cutest glass cups and of course little toothpicks with mini umbrellas on them! From what I knew of Grandpa Heeke he was someone who would take his time on things he cared about! I knew this because those Shirley temples could not have been made without time, effort, and dedication :) I am so fortunate and lucky that I got to go on this trip up to Michigan! I got to really experience a lot of love and memories that will never be forgotten! I truly wish there could have been more times like these! Grandpa Heeke was such a loving person and loved everyone individually, he could make anyone laugh at anytime, he always seemed to live life to the fullest. He will be missed by so many people! I am so glad and fortunate I got to know him! He was truly a great person!

Mrs. Heeke and Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this note of condolence. Charlie and I just heard tonight of Dr. Heeke's passing. I am absolutely stunned as I just had the most delightful visit with him just days ago at the Meijer grocery store. We spent quite some time catching up. He spoke so fondly of each of his children and grandchildren as he always has been so proud of. He also shared with me that Mrs. Heeke was the "energizer bunny" and just as busy as ever!
He still had that great big smile on his face and twinkle in his eye, a great big teddy bear that loved life. We all have benefited by his loving and caring ways. We all will miss him very much.
My dear Jennifer,
You know your Dad was very, very proud of you. He shared that with me too ;) I wish I could have had the chance to see you. Thank you for the lovely Christmas cards you send each year. I have really enjoyed watching your darling kids grow up.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Warm regards,
Mary Karen and Charlie Henderson

Jan & Family: Jo and I are in Alabama when I received a notice about the loss of David. I first met him when we were both selling shoes in downtown Lansing working our way through MSU. Somehow I followed him after that. No matter how seldom I saw him he remains as one of the admired professional dentists I have known I too became a denlist one year after him.. I hope for you and your family will soon remember those wonderful times you have had bringing back the smiles and the laughs, but always those healing tears. Dave was one of the more active members of our class and helped make our Sexton reunions happen. I will always remember him as a positive influence, ready to participate. Having left lansing in 1960 I didn't have the opportunity to have him as a dentist but I am sure he was a caring professional. Looking back on our high school experience I realize it was a special time. Dave was definitely a part of that and one of the best looking boys in our class of 1955.

Dear Janet Heeke & Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of dear Dr. Heeke. He will be greatly missed by myself and my family. He was a wonderful person and gifted dentist.
I first came to Dr. Heeke as a patient in the mid 1970's as a young adult. My cousin (now deceased) had highly recommended Dr. Heeke to me because he knew of the terrible experiences I had had in the past with various dentists.
The best decision I made in those days was to make an appointment with Dr. Heeke. He was the only dentist who really cared about the patients comfort and trained his staff accordingly. With his help, I was able to overcome my past traumas I had as a child and teenager. He restored and maintained my dental health these many years. God bless him!
After marrying, I sent my husband, whose teeth were in poor health, and then both of our children to Dr. Heeke. I started bringing them at age 3 and he was just wonderful with them. They are now in their 20's and have excellent teeth and have never been afraid of the dentist. We will all dearly miss Dr. Heeke.
Sincere regards,
Michele Hufnagel

We have many memories of Dave. He and I had many adventures together in Boyscouts including camping, fishing, outdoor survival skills and service to others. One service project was ushering and assisting fans at MSU football games coached by Biggie Munn and Duffy Daugherty. My wife and I were in his first group of patients and later joined by our children. We benefited from his professional skills, interest in our family, sense of humor, and compassionate care. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. Bill and Joan Dailey

With a heavy heart I am sadden to hear of David's passing. Of all my clients through the years, I could count on one hand who had the most influence and truly a joy to have as a client and friend. David was on the top of that list. He gave me council when I needed it, and we shared many good laughs together. Not an appointment would go by without he mentioning how fortunate he was to have a wonderful wife and family. He loved his work, and enjoyed his life. I feel privileged to have been a small part of that. I am so sorry Jan for your loss. He will be missed..

We are so sad and shocked to hear this news. Dr. Heeke has been my dentist for 46 years, and he feels like family. He will be missed so much! I don't know if anyone at the office will remember, but he reached out to help treat one of my second grade students for free, out of the goodness of his heart about 20 years ago. Her two front teeth still hadn't come in, and she was so self conscious... After talking to her Mom and seeing the need, I called Dr. Heeke to see if he might be able to check her to see why they hadn't come in. I drove the Mom her daughter to the office. Dr. Heeke took X-rays, and immediately had a 3 way conference call with Dr. Smith (orthodontist), and an oral surgeon. and they all treated her! Turns out she had fallen and those top baby teeth had gotten knocked out. Scar tissue had formed, so she required lots of procedures to take care of it. I was so grateful, and he was so nice! He just said he called in a couple of favors. It made a huge difference in her self image! He was a very generous and kind man. Wendi Miller

Such an easy guy to be around. So hard to be without. He made sure I felt apart of the family from the minute we met.
I'm so sorry for this terrible loss for his family friends. He and Janet built such a fine family. I know that his influence on your hearts and minds will have provided you the tools to carry you thru this, but also that might make the loss more keen.
I'm sorry.
p.s. I'll think of him whenever I go fishing up North and don't catch anything. Otherwise I would have gone catching.
