David John Hickman

David J. Hickman, 87, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on November 26, 2023 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA.

Born on July 22, 1936, in Haverford, PA, Dave was a man of many talents. He was well known as the neighborhood handyman, always willing to lend his expertise to anyone in need. Dave approached every task with a level of precision and discipline that soon became his trademark. In many ways, helping others provided him with a great deal of satisfaction to himself and those he helped. He always treated everyone with respect and was very passionate about his friends and family.

Dave graduated from Temple Prep in Philadelphia and proudly served in the US Army and Army Reserve. His military associations were a significant part of his life, and he carried the values he learned during his service throughout his civilian endeavors.

In 1980, Dave started the David J. Hickman Company, a sales organization dedicated to the sale and distribution of commercial sheet metal products. He enjoyed a long and successful career, becoming a respected figure in his industry before retiring in 2019.

Outside of work, David had a variety of hobbies that brought him joy. He was skilled in woodworking, target shooting, sailing, bike riding, golf, and loved to travel, always seeking new adventures.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lee Hickman, his sons David, Robert (Connie), and Jeffrey, as well as his grandchildren Jonathan, Joshua, and Samantha Hickman. He is also survived by his nieces Audrey and Nancy Swift and nephews Paul and Frank Swift. He was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis Swift (Bill).

A memorial service to celebrate Dave's life will be held at Willistown United Methodist Church, 6051 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073.
